Prem,
I meant to respond, then forgot... :) I am half to two thirds retired. I haven't done the math to see how that computes. Work Tues - Fri, 9 AM to Noon. Summers off, Christmas and Spring breaks as in following the public school calendar. I now work for my wife in her Preschool. I never worked for the Lab itself. I have followed a diverse wandering career path including working in the world of banking & finance, design & manufacturing of playground equipment, had a cabinetry & finish carpentry shop, and ran a retail sales photography equipment shop back when the only thing digital about photography was we used a digit to press the shutter button.

The hat? ... It keeps the NM sun off my ears. ;)

MtnDon,

 Good one! Preschool? I should have known. It was the hat that threw me.

Then again ;) ...that's a great cover story for a guy with top secret security clearance. 8)

Rainier,

Nice photos of your trailer, but where's one of you two working on the trailer...or playing your guitar? :pictures:

That was a "selfie" of me and the sailfish.

Re: IDEAS ON HOW TO INSULATE THE FLOOR FOR CAMPING FALL MONT

Postby roadinspector » Mon Dec 09, 2013 11:33 pm

I have never camped in zero or sub-zero in a TT or CT. I have been below freezing before. With an exterior exhausted forced air heater, the only place I have had a small issue with condensation is on windows. I also leave a vent cracked for fresh air. The door opening and closing was limited.

My job requires that I work in all kinds of weather and I greatly prefer to spend my time off camping when I can be comfortable outside but have climate control in the CT in case mother nature sneeks up on us while we are out. I just need enough insulation to cut the heat or cold enough for the climate control to take care of the rest. Thats where I think I will probably get a large area rug with a pad under it to break the chill on the floor. Like in the house, if the hardwood floors are cold to the feet, put some socks or shoes on. I need to have a chemical protected floor when hauling the bike and I have not seen anything other than a Rhino-liner type product or epoxy paint that can provide that type of protection. For my personal different strokes for different folks, if I insulate my floor it would need to be under the floor between the cross members.

Granted this would not do well for boondocking since it does require a good 12v for the fan and igniter but this system has worked great. I do like the idea and thought of kicking back to a propane mini-fireplace. Ya need to fix up a cool looking mantle over it with a jackalope head mounted to the wall.

Earnest
Dadgum it! I cut that board 5 times and it's still too short!

Can you show a picture of yours?? how/where did you install it??

Ill 2nd that

Yes spiffy heater at 20% the cost of what I paid  but is it safe?; it sounds like there's vent gases that escape inside the trailer; so how does it work and if its safe in an enclosed space, escaping gasses or using interior oxygen.

BC Dave,

It isn't as nice as the Dickinson, and it doesn't mount as close to the wall. Actually I don't have it mounted at all right now. It and the pipe ride separately, but even for my below zero test it only took about a minute to set up. Set the stove in place, open floor port, run the gas hose in and connect it to the stove, slide stove pipe on to the top o the stove, open the wall deck plate, slide the other piece of stove pipe through the wall to connect, turn the gas on, and light the stove. The wall mount is nicer, but for now I like that it is stowed away unless I need it. But since I camp at high elevation, it can be 80 in the day time and then drop to 28 at night. So I will probably always have it with me in the camper. I have been in snowstorms in July. You never know what it will be from one day to the next in the mountains.

It does use inside air for combustion. Between the floor port where the gas hose comes in, the loose fit of my door, the top vent that I almost always have open a little, I am not too concerned about it using the air up. I keep more fresh air moving in than probable most people do. Someday I may change this stove out for one that uses outside air for combustion or a for smaller one. For now though this fits my needs and I have no concerns about running it (with proper precautions).

OTT, I totally do not understand your post. Are you saying that you have frozen condensation in your insulation next to the skin? 37 degrees inside or outside your trailer? If outside how long ago since it was freezing? Is the wind blowing? Wind Chill

This is a good thing???
