Zimmer Wee-Zim [circa 1949?]

Hi T&TTTers,

I found these pics of a unit made by Zimmer of Detroit MI in @1949
it appears. It was called the Wee-Zim, a Sportsman's Trailer Home.

It is very similar to the Winter Warrior design, except it has solid walls
folding up to join the sections together and it has a drop floor in the
rear section, also with solid sides it appears.

I wonder how many were produced? -or- Was it a design
they were trying out? It appears to be included in a brochure for the
1949 Zimmer trailer coaches, so they must have made them at least
that year I'd speculate.

I find it fascinating that a lot of these design ideas go way back, or
have also occurred elsewhere.

very cool design. bet it worked well and was comfortable. at least till all the mechanisms went bad and nothing would fold or unfold any more. lol
bet thats why they died out.

We had a guy show up at a vintage camper rally last summer with one on a trailer. He had just bought it and wanted our opinion on it. It was really interesting on how the floor drops down when the hatch is opened. He was going to restore it but I have not heard from him since. He got it from the original owner and the title called it a 1947.

I thought I was lucky to get to restore a 1947 Aero Flite trailer, actually I am.
Now I'll get to work on a Wee Zim. Man It doesn't get any better than this.
It will now doubt be awhile before work gets started, but I will get some pics on as soon as I do.

This one is exciting! I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures. I especially want to know how they kept road water from splashing and seeping up inside the cabin. As far as the drop down part goes, there are products and ways out there that could be used other than or as well as wood that would be more durable and might work well. It would be nice to know why the original didn't become a success....Was it the weight of the pop-top; or, the instability of the drop drown portion; or, road water seepage or...? With all the new products on the market since 1959 and all the talent and knowledge on this forum, I would think that this could be a "dream-come-true" come-back for this model.

I will be following along. I am glad someone has the opportunity to restore it. I would have loved to have done it myself. There can't be too many left in existence. The cable system for the floor is very interesting. When the guy opened it at the gathering a few years ago it was like a time capsule. Hopefully it still has all the parts.

Where are you located? I would love to come by and get some measurements and pics!?!

greatly appreciated by all - and vintage trailer posterity !

Personally, I'd love to see some pics of what you're doing with

The trailer made it here tonight, but I didn't get a chance to look at it too closely yet, it was dark out when it arrived.

And I will be more than happy to put up pics as they come in, and no doubt I'll be taking this trailer down to the frame, so measurements should not be a problem.
