New from central Florida

Postby rick e » Mon Nov 11, 2013 7:03 pm

Hello all, I have the bug, pretty bad too. I started with an interest in small trailers, Casita, Scamp and such. This led me to the really nice Tabs. I like them. While looking at them an ad came up for the "most affordable" camping trailer from a company in Ocala. It was just a small trailer with a cushion in it.
Next thing I know Teardrop info is everywhere I look. I'm thinking, this is for me. I retire in a year and have a small car with a hitch on it. There are so many places I want to go. So here I am working to clean up the utility trailer that was rusting in my back yard, and ordering plans and ordering hurricane hinges from Grant and evolving a firm design.
I have lurked here for long enough to realize this is a treasure of info and ideas and knowledge. Hope to meet some of you on the road somewhere, sometime.

Hello Rick, welcome to the most informative teardrop and tiny travel forum on the net. Good for you, wanting to get involved with our way of life. Grant, is a wealth of information, and you are lucky to have contacted him right up front. He'll steer you in the right direction, and his advice is more than valid. Now, if you want a really good deal, just tell him that I directed you to him, and he'll give you a 50 percent reduction in price! (Oh my God, don't tell him that I told you).

But, really, good for you, wanting to get involved in our camping pleasures. If at all possible, come on up to the Great Lake Shasta Gathering, and meet a ton of other small trailer enthusiasts, many who have built or restored their rigs, or converted utility trailers to their liking. I plan to attend, just look for the most unusual, out of the box, strangely built, flat black, tiny teardrop that was ever concieved and built, and I'll welcome you with open arms. Honest. (Oh, by the way, no cash needed to observe odd ball stuff).
8) Roly, the li'l ol' Woody teardrop builder, (among other things) in So Calif.

Thanks Roly, maybe I will make that gathering, I see a few come through where I work, it would be good to see what others have done. BTW I am a big fan of "Woody teardrops", just don't think I could preserve it in Florida.

Its not really. Oh, whenever we get a warm day I'm gluing in another
hard point. But its just a crawl forward. It can be discouraging. I need
a week to 10 days of warm to pull it all together when I have a 40 YR
old body so I can work long hours.

Hey Rod, thanks. That is a fine paint job on yours. Really looks nice.
It is slow going for me, mostly working on it weekends. But I have the time.
Do you know anything about the Thomas Lumber yard in Orlando. I wonder if they have Baltic Birch. Only local source I have found is the Woodcraft store has 30" x 48".
Anyway thanks for the welcome,
Rick

Hey Rick,
Thomas lumber has some good stuff at decent prices, although, I have not made that trip. I have both big box stores about a mile from me so I have used them mostly.
That other store that you mentioned is very high dollar so I have not used them or thought of using them after just one trip to their store.

How are you coming along on yours?

Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

Good Luck,
Rod
