Newb in LV nv

Postby Xodius » Sun Dec 15, 2013 5:07 pm

Hey all. Newb here. I have been drawing up designs for a couple years and have popped on here from time to time. I was actually going to build a teardrop last year but we had a life change and now have a son. Now with him here and being mostly homebound for a bit the itch is coming back and I might finally break ground and finally build our trailer. I need to modify my past designs to now accommodate 3 humans and 2 dogs. Lol.
Anyway thank you for letting me join and hope to be of help here.

Thank you. My son has been a great change. He sleeps through the night and we are convinced he will walk before crawling. He has taken a few steps but is very wobbly.

This will be my first TDT but second trailer build. The first was mostly helping my FIL with a quad trailer we build from the ground up. After that I learned a lot and know many areas to prove on.

This next one I have a few parts already gathered. One is an old axle from a HF trailer. I am not positive I want to use it though. Ideally it would have the same rims/lug spacing as my jeep but...we will see. Maybe I will beef up the axle. I have also tossed around a silly idea of somehow incorporating a section or ability to haul my quad for hunts with the tear drop. I have a couple of designs with that in play but that will cost a great deal more as I would jump to structural aluminum.

Either way I want and need the trailer to be able to hit trails and go off the beaten path. Both the wife and I work with people...too much sometimes so when we are off the clock we try to get far away from them. Lol. I guess I should call my build more of an expo build then.

Thank you and congratulations on the baby girl!! To be perfectly honest, I have never even been inside a tear drop so I am kind of shooting from the hip on how it will be, lol.

I was going to post a picture of my son but it won't let me :(

When do the camping trips take place? When not building things, I am either jeeping, hiking or when I can hitting ccsp trap/skeet or 5 stand and I can't forget cooking. Lol.

You should be able to find a local TD in your area to check out. Just to get a feal. Two and a young baby can sleep ok in a teardrop ( 5 foot wide ).

I sleep in a 4 foot wide one with just my puppy. Dottie sleep in a pod that replaces one of the doors. So I have the air mattress to my self and she has her doggy bed in the pod. Not sure how big you dogs are. You might need more room.

You might need to scale your picture down, so get to it so we can check how cute he is.

I have been using tapatalk and. Says that photos are disabled with that program/app. I will cloud the photos and load them up via my desktop.

My jeep is a '08 jku, ome hd lift, 35x12.5x15's, winch moo united upside down and feed through factory front bumper. I also cut out the truck and welded up a new box for it that is actually usable. I keep spare fluids and a few other things in there. It is rescue green and has a ton of other minor mods to it too. I live up in the NW near the CCSP but work downtown. If you are in the SE part of town you may see my old rig, it is a maroon kj, lifted about 3.5", large tires, arb front bumper and custom rear bumper. Biggest notable item on it is the hi lift that is much like a mast off the rear. I sold it about...2 years ago.

If you ever want to hit some trails let me know. I love to go and with Wyatt I have not gone in awhile. Might even drag his butt out as he seems to love my jeep and might be a good time to do so. He is 5 months today.

I forgot to mention my dogs are a border collie and a mini schnauzer.

My sons. Youngest on the left and oldest on right. Lol. It is Wyatt and jasper. Jasper is his little guardian and almost never leaves his side. He only does when I get home at which time he follows me around until I settled in then right back to his side.

Well my tent trailer is on hold. My position was cut at the law firm and I am now looking for employment. Hopefully something will come by soon. Most likely after the new year though.
Stay safe out there.

A couple updates...I am on my roughly 10th TD design, lol. All on paper though which maybe good...or bad. I have seen several ideas that I like. Just a matter of narrowing down exact function and requirements.

As for the job front, still looking. I have had two small, short gigs and am really hoping that changes in next month or two. Getting tired of hearing I have too much experience or that I won't be there long.

In the meantime, wishing everyone a great new year. Hope to see you out and about.
