How old is the baby?? If real young, they make a special baby bed that sits on a regular adult bed. Perhaps you can modify that for safety.

UT. Welcome. Woooowww. The bunk is sweet.

She is 17 months and weighs 25 pounds. My wife and I were thinking about modifying our fold-down galley door to accomodate a mattress.

Cabela's Bunk Bed

Postby M. Olsen » Wed Apr 26, 2006 11:24 pm

I just got a new Cabela's Camping catalog last night and found the following item that cought my eye.

Cabela's clicky

Sorr for the long link address. I think that this would be similar to the oter sling style bunks that have been shown. I do like how the ends of the rails fit into the "head" and "foot" boards. Something like this could be replicated in a teardrop.

Enjoy!!

:? 17 months :? Boy mine could get into a lot of mischief by that age. The fold down galley might be a good idea---if---

Make absolutely sure she can't reach even one little finger into the galley. You may find her playing in there if she can.

The good news about tears and babys, is the wall to wall mattresssss. If she climbs out (and for safety I strongly suggest she be able to.) she will land soft.

My personal opinion of net type slings is they are dangerous for small children and old folks like me. Jeanett's idea is much better if a soft sling is needed, maybe with short sides for smaller children.

Good luck.

I did the exact same thing with the fold down into the cabin. My 2 year old does fine. We found that he has to fall asleep in the big bed, then be lifted onto the shelf. We used a cargo net across the opening once he's up there to keep him from rolling off onto our legs.
