I see on the group topic area there are a few of us here. I'm new to trailer camping, always just camped in a tent. My wife and I fell in love with the idea of getting a travel trailer after a friend of ours got one. We, however, can't find what we want online that is in our price range, so I kinda/sorta have permission to build one. If it goes well, she'll let me build the boat that I've always wanted to build. Success is critical.
I've lurked through all of the build designs and several of your build journals. Yall are masters. I will not show my wife this site, dare she begin to compare my work to yours.
Over the coming year, I will start a build journal of my own and be seeking guidance from you all.
My current skillset: I successfully assembled a Harbor Freight boat trailer 3 years ago and it has yet to fall apart, except for the tag holder thingy. Zip ties fixed that.
My current limitations: Trailer must be suitable for class one hitch, towing with a station wagon. I also have no covered place to work, so will need to buy and/or construct a working area, which presents it's own set of challenges, seeing as how we have two acres but do not own the house or land, we are long term renters.
My goals as of now: Queen bed inside of a plywood box on a harbor freight trailer, small window AC unit for use when there's power, ventilation so we don't suffocate, stylish enough that my wife is happy, some storage for things that need to be stored, light enough for class one hitch, and economical. No plumbing is required at this time, as I have already scoped out our potential destinations and they all have bathrooms. Camping would be around North GA and NW SC, Travel to football games, travel to beach. We may eventually add a canoe rack on top.
Thanks in advance to all of you. Great site you've got here.
Edit to add- I was sent to this site by the good people at Georgia Outdoor News online aka GON forums.
