'nuther way to "git 'er done"

Postby GeorgeT » Thu Apr 27, 2006 2:45 pm

Because of the high gas prices I went out last Fall an bought a little Honda Rebel 250cc motorcycle. It gets about 75 miles per gallon scootin' around town. It'll run 75 to 80 mph on the highway. Lots of fun but as the gas prices keep goin' up I decided that I was gonna hafta start using the bike for more'n fun. My wife sewed up some canvas bags with zippers and such so I could go grocery shoppin'. A lady followed me outta the store with my buggy pretty near full. She saw my helmet in the buggy and wanted to see how'n the world I was gonna carry all that on a motorcycle. I pulled my four canvas bags outta my little black utility bag I carry over my shoulder and I showed her.

Image

I could've carried more as the two maroon bags weren't really full and my utility bag was now empty without the canvas bags stuffed in it. My wife will be amazed as I didn't squash the bread!

There's more pics and info on the motorcycle ("Spartacus") on my website below if you're thinkin' on somethin' that gets better gas mileage.

George,
I don't think I could fit that much in my Escape.
I am really suprised the folks at the HEB didn't crush that bread for you.

Hey, I had thought about that and had designed up a little cargo cart, but when I told my wife about it I did get a "reaction". It ended with "No more trailers!"...Oh come on, just a little one?...........No! It took me eight months to build my little camper an' I told her it'd take about 3 or 4 months. She says she doesn't want to lose her husband again for so long. Love that gal. :D

No, I removed it some time ago to make space on my web site, as it didn't seem to have attracted much interest.

I have PDFs of the geometry and construction - they were some of the first I did, so they ain't brilliant and I lack the enthusiasm to go back and do them again, but they'll do!

And if anyone asks for them, make sure you tell me which pdfs you're asking for - I've got three different sets of requests running right now and I'm getting seriously confused who is asking for what and who's been sent what! :?

Paul, I've sent them to you.

Thanks Andrew. They'll be ideal for the bike we are getting at the end of the year. I'll probably build the trailer first. The bike is going to be one of those retro wannbe's- a Suzuki Promenade.
Cheers
Paul.

THIS PROGRAMME MAY NOW RETURN TO NORMAL CONTENT.
Sorry for that temporary hijack GeorgeT

Local grocery store, HEB. Sometimes they don't have it. I make up a real weak coffee and then add postum to darken it up. Makes a great low caffine coffee drink. I can't stand decaf. :coffee:
