Welcome Jomo! I'm a new teardrop owner myself, recently retired and look forward to some fly fishing days ahead of me along with just enjoying the outdoors. Nice looking rig.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. I took the paperwork the DMV gave me over to the guy I bought it from and he said to give him a few days and he will register it in his name then sign it over to me. He seems like an honest man, he says he knows someone that is a title clerk. I'll let you know as soon as I find out something. Since the bill of sale said camper trailer I think that's where my problem is. Camping trailers must have a title. It also says it must have sleeping and storage area to be a camper. This has no bed in it so it could be just storage space and the guy I bought from said you can sleep in your SUV but that doesn't make it an RV. So maybe he'll be able to state his case. I can't be assertive it's not in my personality. I'll let you know how this turns out, I may not be assertive but I can be persistent. :?

I've been waiting to get good news before I posted but that hasn't happened yet. I have spoken to the guy I bought it from almost everyday and he keeps saying don't worry he'll handle it. In the beginning he said he was waiting until the holidays were over. Then he got sick with a cold. Next his ex wife was a title clerk and she was handling the paperwork. One day I called and he said she forgot to bring the paperwork home. Then he was going to talk to the guy he bought it from. Finally on Friday he as much as said he hadn't done anything, his problem was he was waiting for someone else to handle it. Now for sure he was going to the DMV himself and I should not worry, it will get taken care of. He keeps taking my calls and talks like he will do something to help me but I don't think he ever will. My son said he would see what he could find out about it from the DMV. Maybe he can figure out how to fix this mess. I will let you know what happens.

I finally have good news to report. I went to the DMV today and got a tag for my teardrop. It's registered as a homemade trailer. Now I can get started on fixing it up and going camping on March 1. Thanks for all your words of encouragement. It turned out pretty simple, the guy rewrote the bill of sale to say homemade trailer and I took the weight slip and that was all there was to it. :applause:

Sorry I didn't see your thread sooner, I work at the DMV here im Kansas and we have a similar law. Trailers under 2000 don't need titled amd registered, but RVs do. The key is just getting around the RV designation. In Kansas an RV needs electric, plumbing, and heat. So I will not be putting a heater in mine maybe not plumbing either. Glad you got it figured out though. Welcome to the forum. I am just starting building mine but if you have a question these guys have lots of solutions.

Yes jay hawk I got smart the third time I went and kept my mouth shut. I said I bought a homemade trailer and according to the internet I need a bill of sale and a weight slip in order to get a tag and here they are. She said yep that's all since it's under 2000 pounds. The first 2 times I went my bill of sale said homemade camper trailer, so I got the seller to write a new bill of sale. My registration says homemade trailer and that's what it is. I'm so excited again. Now when it warms up and stops raining for 2 days straight I can go to work. I live in Florida but this year our weather has been brutal, for us anyway. :D

Nicely done and glad you got it registered. It was an experience we all don't forget, going through the DMV. Your project looks great  and I'm sure you are going to have some wonderful times with it. Hope to see you on the road sometime. :vroom:

It's looking a little better everyday. I put some support poles in today. Still waiting for my son to finish painting the rims and getting my new tires, then it's ready to roll. Still plan to do more work but at least I can take it out for a trial run.
