I want to know why utility companies still refuse to put electric underground. I know it's expensive, but not as much as repairing etc. If they'd put new lines underground and started doing sections of old, it would help.

Well, it looks like the worst of it is going to miss Michigan. NY and Boston get it.

yeah that was a shock for the pilgrims also, about half of them died the first winter thanks to underestimating what winter in "New" England would be like. Showing up in late fall and trying to make a go of it will always be a bad idea up here.
The old Maine proverb "if your wood pile is as big as your house, you MIGHT make it through the winter" (and old original maine houses were small)

ready for whatever comes, put the snow tires on the car ( I drive all over new england to keep air planes flying, spent new years eve in snowy Barre, VT getting one launched, then drove home in the snow until about Concord, NH) fixed the snow blower, pulled the generator out and ran it (three year old gas, fired on the third pull, got to love stabil!) cut and split some more firewood before the unprocessed pile gets covered again, put the ski's back in the car...
now watch, that storm will keep tracking further east and go out to sea entirely...
(so far my hopes are up, the National Weather Service is predicting snow and they always misunderestimate snow)

I live in southern Idaho. Snow country. I went for bicycle ride today. No snow and It was above freezing. Not much above.

We have lots of snow and ice… our high temps yesterday were in the single digits.. with wind.. and we went for a bike ride. A nice 3 hour trail ride.. entertaining the snowmobilers. 8)

Just a dry light dusting this AM; didn't even cover the grass. Windshield wipers took care of it. Being along the coast, the forecasters seem to have a hard time agreeing as to how much snow we will get. They do, however, agree that we are in for subzero (F) temps over the next couple of days.

As I say "I am crazy, not stupid"

But good for you. I have neither the bicycle or physical condition for such a thing. Even if I did have snow.

Of course there was the one time I drove my 1972 Honda 350 motorcycle over spring time snow about 5 miles to the top of Moscow Mountain on snowmobile trails. It was a good ride. When I fell over the snow kept from any damage.

I am so glad that the snow knows enough to not fall north of the St-Lawrence River and Lake Ontario. The border is iven becoming difficult for weather to cross.
