I have thought about asking the same thing Slow. Other than the Little Guys and Camp Inns.
There are a few homebuilts I really admire and if I had the money would love to have one built for my family.

Stacie Tamaki hired Alaska Teardrops to build her Glampette, but he uses a lightweight steel tube frame method, and based on the quality of his work, I am sure does not come in at a low cost.

Slow, I think your best bet would be to look at the classifieds and Craig's listings, and try to find a used standy for your honeymoon. Buy what you can afford and use the time between now and then to wait for the right deal. Then, if you want to build the goose later, you can do that on your own time and sell the bought camper to get the money back. No sense in buying labor if you can't afford it, and don't let the time crunch get in your way. Have your cake and eat it, too.

2bits has recently scooped up a couple of used campers for a lot less money than it would take to have someone else build. Spend just a little more and get something that is ready to go; you'll still be way ahead of a commissioned build.

You could also check for "Handyman" in the local Craigslist. Anyone with Handyman skills can "git er done" with a review of the Generic Benroy plans and a little guidance.

You will not like the price.

To have a guy build a custom teardrop will cost you well over $5000, and quite possible closer to $10,000.

If you are a good woodworker, you are in the wrong business!

Mike...
The quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so build your teardrop with the best materials...

I will go along with what others have said, custom made = expensive. Ours is at the far end of elaborate I know but it is sitting at about 14,000 as it is now. You might be able to find some one to do some of the work.

I'd think that any competent woodworker is also going to require you give them a set of plans for them to build to. A conversation and some arm waving isn't probably going to give you the result that you'd like. Doug

Just a shameless plug for the “Gray army” ... Now it might be possible to find an old geezer in your area with a woodshop and nothing to do ... They’re (we) are still on the old school economics and you’d get a better price than going to a commercial builder...
Lots of talented, skilled, Old guys out there looking for purpose and a way to make a few extra coins... ;)

Considering the low resale value for campers, why don't you get something cheap so you can camp comfortably while you are working the long hours. Sell it or use it as a frame and parts after you have time to build what you want. You should easily be able to pick up a working pop up for under $1000.

Slow,
How about a snowmobile trailer with a "clamshell" cover? They look kinda like a teardrop trailer. In fact, there is a company that makes a "skirt" that attaches to the clamshell and the trailer that has a screen door and windows and also includes clear "windows" that allow you to use it for a longer time throughout the season. It also makes it so you can stand up inside. I know most of the snowmobile trailers are built for two sleds and that makes them 102" wide and if that is too wide, you could probably find a similar setup for a single sled trailer. Another thing I noticed is several trailers are made from aluminum making them very light. A quick check of e-bay last night showed several trailers for under $2500.00 Should you want to discuss this option, feel free to give me a shout.

Slow, if you are seriously looking for someone to build your TD trailer for you, my dad just retired and has tons of time on his hands. He is a very competant builder/fabricator and has a nice warm shop to work out of. He lives in Nevada, so not too far from you. Send me a PM and I will connect you to him.
