Cthulhu Themed - Final Build Pics

Postby Woodpecker » Thu Jan 02, 2014 7:48 pm

Hey gang, Mnkee swinging in.

I work as a Camp Host in the Tahoe National Forest 6 months a year. Building the Teardrop as a new bedroom/ office.
My Campground is a primitive horse camp. No electric, spring fed water on site. So I'll be adding solar panels and extra batteries for power storage.
Starting with the HF 4'x8' folding trailer. Squared it up and welded it top and bottom. Almost every joint has been ground, welded, reground and painted.
Just finished today! lol

Going for a Cthulhu/ Nemo-esque feel. Trying to maintain the wood look. Composite walls and roof. I like insulation.

Off to buy the wood as soon as I have a more complete materials list.

I put a couple pics in an album. I'll figure out how to post by the time there is something worth looking at.

But will you be able to sleep a single night without having your soul eaten?

Thanks all!
I am soooo excited!

Bought all but 3 sheets of plywood off the materials list. Hauled it all on a friends jeep and it didn't even notice.
Beautiful 1/2" sanded Birch for the kitchen & Floor and 1/4" for the inner & outer walls. Awesome grain patterns and I'm staining everything. Decent plywood for the sub floor and braces.
Going to get some nice bendy board for the roof/ ceiling from the lumbar yard an hour away. Do that when I'm closer to needing it.

Burning the hours up in Solidworks. Plan pics to come.

If I say that my somewhat extravagant imagination yielded simultaneous pictures of an octopus, a dragon, and a human caricature, I shall not be unfaithful to the spirit of the thing. A pulpy, tentacled head surmounted a grotesque and scaly body with rudimentary wings; but it was the general outline of the whole which made it most shockingly frightful.”

OK, this is the final design for the outside wood trim.

I am a Lovecraft fan but actually the inspiration for this came from a friends drawing. It had a Celtic/ tribal feel and I saw Cthulhu in it so just ran with it.
I'm more of an Asimov and Piers Anthony guy myself =)

Designing the galley now. The trim work is going to be fun!

For the door I made a few very minor changes to the trim design so I could make a large door with good overlap and a squared hinge surface.

Very artistic, but don't forget that most TD doors hinge at the front so that the door swings away from the fender, rather than into it.

Not a problem if using the non-Euclidean geometry the builders in R'lyeh use. Pretty much anything goes there. Especially if the stars come right.

Good answer!
I wasn't thrilled with the suicide door myself but it will swing above the fender.

Good day, sub-floor cut, floor frame built, all painted and ready for assembly tomorrow.
