The Money Is No Object Answer to A/C

Postby MtnDon » Thu Jan 16, 2014 1:07 am

I ran across an interesting A/C solution. It is designed for use in over the road highway trucks, for use when not going over the road. That is, for use when parked. It's from Idel B the same folks who bring us the Truckfridge. Try as I did to find the cost I was unsucessful. I found distributors / dealers in the US and Canda but none listed prices. I believe that is indicative that it is not a bargain basement item, not something to directly challenge the Fridgidaire window units often seen in TD and TTT.

Basic info over here.

5 models, 2 capacities; 3240 BTU and 6140 BTU.

We have a small off grid cabin we built ourselves in the NM mountains; small PV solar system; 624 watts PV, Outback CC & inverter/charger ... http://countryplans.com/smf/index.php?topic=2335.0

You might contact westyventures.com who sell the TruckFridge and many parts for VW camper vans to ask them if they know about Indel B's a/c. They may know who or how to contact a distributer or importer. Might work. Might not. Seems worth a try.

This looks cool :). Sorry, I couldn't resist. This cooling and dehumidification Is my number one dislike of teardrops. Our AC isn't bad, but it's definitely only a compromise...

I wonder how much airflow there is...how useable would this be cooling a small room in a tiny-home for example...might be a good answer for off grid as well.

I'm interested too!

I don't want to raise the PetCool discussion again but the one we use in our teardrop matches the cooling demand and does an excellent job at dehumidification.

Where we live and camp dehumidification is more important than cooling. These units seem to be designed with that purpose in mind.

I particularly like the split zone model that has the condenser (and it's noise) outside with the evaporator inside.

The one down side draws on one of the models up to 75A max and for the smaller unit 32A max 16A standard

I looked at the ThermoKing small engine powered AC http://www.thermoking.com/tripac which does it all but costs about $8,000

Which is essentially this with an integrated generator.

on the shoshone side of casper it was a white out due to all the snow on the ground blowing across the high way in at least 45 mph wind.

right now us wyoming natives have had so much wind in the last week we are sick of wind!!!!!!!!!!!!!

slow[/quote] One thing I always loved about Wyoming in the winter, especially around Rock Springs, is the wind never blows!

Remember that there are now environmental laws prohibiting the big rigs and buses from idling. So a lot of big rigs are having APU's (Auxiliary Power Units... fancy words for a generator) installed so that they can run their heaters, A/C's, microwaves, etc. while they are stopped. I 'm guessing that this product is coming out as a result of this trend.

Yes, but in more populated areas, like here on the east coast, it is becoming more and more common.

The Money Is No Object Answer to A/C

Because the troglodytes needs are ignored. It amazes me when rules against things like this are made...you can bet the gorum beaurocrat was sitting in an air conditioned office when it was passed...

(Let's see who gets the two Scifi references)

And I'm hearing from trucker friends that the newer aux coolers work and cost less to operate. So there may be some benefit to this change. :NC

Can we get back to air conditioning units for teardrops here?
And forget about the weather conditions in Wyoming and the sound of trucks in Nebraska! :x
We are all looking for an efficient, compact, and in expensive way to cool the very small cabin of a teardrop.
There must be some manufacturer of air conditioning systems that has considered our needs and come up with something????
If someone on the Forum knows...Please reply!
But, No more weather reports please!
