We have had a very cold winter. The closed schools last week for 2 days. This was the first time in about 20 years . Tuesday we had some straight line winds for the day, with gusts to 50MPH. It just makes me start to plan my summer camping vacations.

Probably not as much as Wyoming, but we feel your pain here in MN. We get a peek at normal temperatures just to toy with our minds and then down below zero again and windy. Last winter hung around here a month longer than normal and then snow came and stayed a week or two early and it is just soo cold. We had one of the coldest Decembers on record here and January isn't feeling to much better. And our energy bill? Yikes
So looking on the bright side no mosquitoes or ticks, the world is quieter and what few stars we see in the city seem brighter.

Hi, Slow

We get our high winds in northern NM in March and April. Last year the next door neighbor's shed ended up in my back yard. The year before it was his 50 foot ponderosa pine tree!

Oh, and of course there was my trailer. But that was in November. :frightened: I guess we have high winds whenever.

While in school at Lubbock, this would happen about twice a year except it would also bring in a dust storm that would last a couple of days each time.

Here on the California Central Coast we are experiencing drought. We have had less than 10% of the average season's rainfall. The hillsides, actually almost everything, is dry and brown. We should have lush green hillsides this time of year. The streams should be running, sometimes almost full after a rainfall.

It's weird that daytime temperatures in January are often in the high seventies to the low eighties. Many people are out and about in shorts and tee shirts during the day. Nice but weird.

I'm really coming to believe in global weirding as opposed to global warming. Our weather is weirdly warm for this time of year. The skies are beautifully blue most days. We need rain and some gray skies. More windy weather too as storms blow through.

I'm getting to wear my new Costco Hawaiian shirts out and about in January. Not my California version of foul weather gear. Many days I need to take layers of clothing off because its too hot.

Kind of similar situation here, except we've gotten a few good storms so our snowpack is fair and creeks are running. Last weekend's 5 inches of rain in the lowlands and a few feet of snow up high saved us. Yesterday, I was out at a friend's house on the south facing deck and thinking about putting shorts on. He said, "Can you believe it is the middle of January and we're out here sitting in the sun without coats on?"

We're in a dry spell for the rest of the week. We did need a break to let the ground drain after all the rain. I'm enjoying the sun while I can. There's still a lot of winter left to go.

Well, I'm here in Montana so yes we do get winds like that. But we aren't very far from you and I purposefully don't live in the parts of Montana that have similar high winds. I enjoy my trees and mountains too much and a happy side effect is they block the wind a bit.

Hey Slow. Nothing like that here yet this winter. Had a few days of good wind. I seen worse, I seen better. Yup, gets old trying to remember to park the vehicle into the wind so the doors don't get ripped off. On the plus side you do an "Idaho pickup clean out." Park side ways to the wind and open both doors. Clean the sucker right out.

I remember back in the 90s one winter night we had winds in the 90-100 mph range for most of a night and temps around 0. Readings where official not seat of the pants. A gal froze to death out on the desert not far from me. I often drive past the place it happened. Yup, this place and still kill. 2 day hikers died out there on the lavas in the early fall. Still have not heard officially what killed them. Took over a week to find them on the bare lavas. From a distance they look so nice but they are some of the hardest hiking one can do and things get down right weird out there.
