I know hindsight is 20/20, but why didn't he just grab it from the outside with the pliers and pull the bulk of it away so that it could not re-attack him, then pull the stuck needles out. Flicking it about with a stick seems to be a lesson learned.

That jumping Cholla is mean stuff, it will chase you . I swear I wasn't even cloe to one once and it got me. I know it doesn't really jump but I can see why it got its name and I know I must have brushed up against it but I sure don't remember. What I do remember was saying ouch a LOT

My thoughts exactly. I fell into a cactus once when very young. I'm glad it wasn't one of those, but mom had to remove quite a few spines from my back side. not something I would want to do again.

While not having cacti here , we do have what was always called “sticker bushes” .. :frightened: Walk through those and get all sliced and stuck ... Long pants helped ...

I hate sticker bushes, and cacti and those sticker things they have that grow wild in grass in Texas. I now see I will be wearing my long pants jeans and chaps when I go into the desert. sorry I can't say anything else on either subject or I will get thrown off the forum.

The desert where I am at we only have the pad leaf cacti. No where as bad as many in the southern deserts. But we do have downy brome grass, Bromus Tectorum. It is from central aisa and has just about forced all native grass out. After it dries in late may, early june the seed heads get in your shoes and socks and are miserable. I like to have high top shoes with a full gusset tongue if I go out in the desert after those b&%*(&) plants dry out. When dry they burn real good. It is shocking to see just how fast fire can spread in that crap.

As much as we love to be out in the woods ( I Live in the woods ) Nature is always throwing something at us to watch out for ... You have to be aware of your surroundings at all times ... From the tiniest bacteria, to a larger threat (bears ) , They‘re out there waiting for us ... :frightened: Be wise, dress accordingly ... ;) keep your wits about you ...

I must confess I went out and bought a little FSTV for the FoamStream  ... Just a little 32” ... Small enough to carry along on evac , Big enough for my Studio when not being used in the FS ... This replaces my 25 year old Mitsubishi Old style TV (and converter) .. The new TV picks up more channels than the converter did...

The prices of TV's sure have come down lately ...
