Hello from Colorado

Greetings all,

I am very new to tear drops but not to camping. I have been looking to build something like this for a very long time, now I may actually learn how to get started! That, or spend a bunch of time and money on a pile of scrap wood. Either way it'll be fun trying it all out Let's see, a little about myself I suppose. Well, I have been lurking this site for a long time now and I finally sent off an email to get registered. That was a few weeks ago and now I am finally getting my first post in. I am married, in the Army, very technically minded and I have two dogs, Sammy and Sofie. Well, one dog really, Sofie has decided she belong to my wife.

Anyway, I also like to hunt and fish and it gets a little cold in Colorado around hunting time. I am just getting to old I guess to keep doing this from a tent. I do like to travel as light as I can but I need something more than a tent, but less than a ginormous RV. I think a TD will fit the bill nicely. I have acquired several sheets of plywood so far and some other goodies. I am still looking for a trailer frame though. Did I mention I am cheep too? Not so cheep that I will sacrifice safety, but I do like to get a good deal even if that means waiting a while longer.

Welcome. The forum helped me with my build and is fantastic resource. My build cost so far is around £500 say $750 and I've not compromised on safety.

Welcome to the forum!!! There are lots of people on here and lots of information I am sure if you look and do a lot of reading you will find all that you need to build a really neat Tear drop. Good Luck!!

Welcome! I too am new here, and trying to get my build in perspective. But it is starting to come together. (on paper) Haven't started on it yet, but will probably in the next week or so.

So what part of Colorado are you from? I was born and raised in Grand Junction, then joined the Navy and after retiring, I got offered a Mgmt position with a plant here in Georgia.

I too am from Grand Junction. I have since joined the Army I am currently stationed at Ft. Carson.

I haven't started my build yet either, I am still trying to figure out exactly what I want on paper first. I do know a few things I really want:

I would like to use the same tires as my Toyota Tacoma and have the same ground clearance
I would like to use a PV setup, not sure yet on how much I need/want
I would like as complete a kitchen as I can get
I would like a real refrigerator (I am looking at the 12V one from ARB)

The basic idea/application is to use it as a base when I am hunting/camping. It will be just me and maybe a guest as my wife doesn't hunt. She has no problem helping process the meat once its back at the house, she just doesn't like the cold. She will probably go camping with me during the summer, but nothing once fall really sets in.

WOW! Its a small world. I have retired from the military, but still thank and respect all who have, are and will serve. So thanks for your service. Mine is going to be a little on the small side. Want it light enough to pull behind my motorcycle. so I am going for the more no frills mode here. Just have to see what I can come up with.
