Hello from Jefferson

Postby crash » Fri Jan 31, 2014 10:59 pm

I am very new to the idea of teardrops. I saw one last weekend and thought it would be perfect for pursuing my first love, kayak fishing. I have a class C RV and a pop-up tent trailer, but I'd much rather spend my time fishing than setting up camp.

I also saw that its possible to spend as much money as you would like to on one of these things. One I looked at retailed for $16k! I'm handy enough to build one, and I have a target date of May 15, opening day of rockfish season here in Humboldt County.

I have a blank slate. I will build it with fishing and kayaks in mind. Looking to stay under $2,500 and be done by mid-May. Open to ideas and direction, especially if anyone else has done this build before with kayak fishing in mind and I don't have to reinvent the wheel.

Tight lines.

:D Welcome Crash!
If you are in HumCo you might want to go to the Dam Gathering at Shasta the first weekend of May and check out some of the designs and meet some of our local Jeffersonians there. Course, you could also fish and kayak on the lake too. 8)

:R If you want to see what my spouse and I do with our time teardropping click on the IRG or Cast Iron pot below. Your target date is mid-May....you should have it done then to camp for the 5.0 over the 4th of July. Keep us posted. :pictures:

Thanks Joanie! I hope there is water in shasta come may :(

I did my gorilla search of the forum and found two kayak themed builds that piqued my interest.

Randy77301 and sonnetpro builds both have given me some ideas to chew on. I should have figured that kayak fishermen would have found their way here over the years. Looks good guys and gals.

You will have to get on your horse as they say, if you hope to be finished by May 15th.
But WELCOME to the Forum! You might want to allow at least "twice" as much time as you think it will tale you to build your own TD???
You might consider buying an already started project. There are some listed under the Buy and Sell section here on the Forum.
There is a great deal on a chassis and TD parts in central Washington. And I know of a completed 4' body ready for Aluminum skin (he has the skin) here in B.C.
Good Luck with your build!
Love to see you at the Dam!
