My Rendition and build of An Off Road Trailer

I built the frame 6'x6'6" myself from 2"x3" .065 wall steel for keeping the trailer light. All of the square tubing is 1/16" thick 1"x1" square tubing. The frame and structure will be welded then the interior will be installed. I am hand building all of the doors and windows will be installed. A vent with a three speed reversible fan will be on the top with a solar panel. This has a 3500 lb axle that I shortened and installed a 4" lift Jeep leaf spring over. I also mad all of the mounts.
So far I have about 6 actual hours on the build.

Great departure angle! Does that back end fold down for your feet to stay enclosed all night, and fold up for great departure angle while wheeling? What a great idea!

Hey Dave. The frame you see here does not have moving parts, its the skeleton. The rear hatch will be hinged on the top and opens much like a traditional teardrop. Inside will be the galley and assorted fun stuff. The sleeping area is the large rectangular area (main body) with an access door on the side, again like a traditional TD.

Thank you for all of the looks on my trailer. I have been so busy at work that I have not worked on it in atleast 6 weeks.

Hey looks really sturdy and you are obviously doing a nice job. Do what you can to keep the center of gravity low. Tall trailers can tip over when offroading. If you still have the frame exposed, you could weld on a couple of winch points on the top edge. Like handles. Just in case you need them it will be easy to right it. Also useful for other reasons too.

I added handles at the bottom front of my trailer frame, so I can pull it out from an angle if stuck. As it turns out, I use those handles all the time to grab the trailer & move it around, and when I broke a spring, I tied the axle to the front handle so it couldn't slip back. Made it 400 miles home through washboard & Baja desert like that. Now I carry a spare leaf when off-roading.

This trailer is still quite light. The center of gravity is low and the tongue weight is still about 45 lbs. my goal is till to keep it under 1000 lbs. i will weigh it when it is finished. Also it will be painted the same color as my Jeep in the future. I have spent a lot of time engineering it. I will post the details and features when it is done.
