I've called all around and the only place I found that has 1 in formular r 150 is an hour away. I was thinking about spray foam via a family member that sprays houses in this area. What are the pros and cons from someone that has gone that route? I did a quick search but didn't find a lot.

IMO, spray foam is the best if it is closed cell (R 6 approx per inch) like XPS. If it is open cell (R 3.5 per inch) then it depends on the thickness and the expected outside low temperature range. Open cell can absorb moisture; closed cell does not, but costs more.

I could not find anyone to do spray foam as it was too small a job. I did not want to use one of the DIY kits, in part as I would have had to wait until warm weather. (no garage large enough).

If I went with closed cell(closed cell) would the outer skin be effected? I read with temp change and road vibration it may.

I don't have a good answer to that. I've heard the concern and have wondered about the temperature, expansion - contraction of aluminum. The closed cell does form a bond and does add rigidity to frame construction buildings. But then they don't get towed down the road much.

Trailers with screwless aluminum skins don't seem to have a problem with expansion - contraction. ??? Maybe the bonding adhesive there is more flexible?

I have also heard people say that trailers need to flex or "work" and that the rigid bonded foam will prevent that. I believe that is BS. Suspensions should have movement but the frame and box should not. If the box flexes the frame is not doing its job. I am not an engineer; that is just an opinion.

Called my spray foam guy and he said he thinks I would be better of with foam board. Reason being that he had to spray closed cell cautiously because excess spray cannot be trimmed off like open cell. He stated that he would only be able to fill it around 3/4 of an inch an it wouldn't be consistently even. Looks like I'm traveling to get the boards anyway.

Unfortunately I haven't got any work done lately. It has been snowing and iceing here and I had to wait for my insulation to ship. I decided on eight sheets of 1" formular 150. I hope to get some work done next weekend.

There is a certain amount of flex built into a trailer. if you want to prove it to yourself level your trailer sideways front and back then set a jack on the right rear corner and the left front corner jack them up just a small amount now look at your levels. Oh and if you do have a trailer foamed be sure it is level before you spray it otherwise you may be like a friend of mine that has a trailer with a permanent twist to it.

PS get behind a pickup and follow them when they cross an uneven spot they flex like crazy but since they started doing that you have very few frames that break like they did in the old days

Howdy All;

Kinda like the wings of an airplane, watch'em next time you go
on a flight in a commercial airliner ... On a 747 the wing tips can
move as much as 3' in each direction (up & down ... if they move
front to back tell someone!). The flexibility is necessary or the wings
would break of then you'd find yourself in a flying (?), torpedo!

If you really want to see some flex watch a b52 take off and land.

I'm just about finished insulating and will post pics of the trailer soon. The foam board has been super easy to work with and I love the over feel of the trailer now. It made it a lot more solid and feels a much better quality. I have started gathering some supplies for my kitchen/food prep. I ordered a cookware set instead of throwing some pots together. The main goal is to store tightly and be light weight. I went with the Bugaboo camper from GSI. The quality is very good, light weight and stores very neat. For these reasons I highly recommend this set. Will have to test them at the camp site for a full review. I also thought pretty hard about a fixed mounted to the camper but decided id be better off with a type of chuck box until I see what our family would benefit with the most. I saw a post on Pinterest where they used a Stanley fat maxx tool box. It takes up little space for as big as it opens up. Its also light weight and surprisingly sturdy. Here are a few pics.

Yep, looks like an original on the chuck box idea. Tough, portable, optimizes space.

Finished all of my insulating this week. Now I'm getting all the plywood back up and getting the layout figured out. I'm needing recommendations for a good cookstove if anyone has a lot of experience with different ones.

I use the venerable Coleman propane cook stove, the one I have now is over 20 years old and still cooking. They make them in several different sizes. I would also check out Camp Chef. They make some very good products and all sorts of different arrangements.
