Hmmmm Mike I like what your thinking for this and a bike
There is a world, just beyond now,
where reality runs a razor thin seam between fact and possibility;

Anywhere I roam where I lay my head is home....

Let the builds begin

Postby papayolk » Wed Jan 04, 2012 10:56 pm

To all who have expressed interest in building a Spud of their own. After counseling from my lawyer I have decided to sell plans/parts-lists to Spud. The offer will grant a licence of patent to build one unit. The plans will be copyrighted and only delivered after receipt of a liability waver.

Now the fun part. A unit number tag corresponding to the licence agreement will be issued with each plan set. Units 0001, 0002, and 0003 will require a production quality build and commitment to hit a few shows this spring. Not as vendors, just to start a buzz in the parking lot. 1-3 will need a submition to show the quality of workmanship the builder will attempt. All licencees can run as far and wide as they will with the concept understanding all inovation and improvments become the property of the licencor. For example, even a motorcycle sidecar that opens into a bed would need a licensing agrement because it uses Spud's opening process. Yes, even a bicycle trailer. I'm sorry all, but I'm pitching this unit to manufacturers and must attempt to convey this is an intellectual property and a patent application has been filed.

How much would be a resonable charge? If one is granted the 0001 - 0003 build rights the price will be $1. For 0004 and above? For any disabled duff like me $20?

So, what do you all think would be a fair price to pay for a instructive CD, build plans, parts list, and becoming part teardrop history with a serial number of 0004> of a pre-production run of Idaho Bedrolls? When pirated units start hitting the road, what price to be able to point at PapaYolk's “data plate of authenticityâ€

$1? times are hard a $1 is way to much, maybe 25 cents would be more in keeping with the devalue of housing these days.
If one spent a dollar and the plans dropped in value from lack of interest one could end up underwater on cost vs value.
how about a free PDF set of plans and if they were used then maybe a quarter could be forwarded to you?

In all honesty you have one of the cleverest designs I have seen one to be proud of.

It's been a long ride, but Spud's now a genuine intellectual property, US 8,623,119 B2

It would be unfair to my manufacturer to post build plans; he paid the big bucks to use my patent, but the rig is so simple that one-of home-builds are popping up already. So I'm putting the word out to you DIY scofflaws that If you build, you all will be required to pull your rigs out to Roswell, Idaho and pay me a six-pack and let me sign your rigs.

Cozy Cruiser broke their Patent licensing Agreement so I am now hunting for a new manufacturer here in Idaho with patent in hand.

papayolk!!!!!

I know this is an old post but, I was looking around the net for plans to build an expanding tear drop in the bed of my Tacoma pickem up truck. I only been searching for three weeks but, as the Book says...seek and ye shall find!!! What are the odds of running across your post?

Anyway, genius thinkin out the box!!! Did you use stainless hinges on the bottom fold out?

If nuthing else: Thanks for posting this info...it gives my ideas possible hope!!!! :applause: :applause:

To Bad for Cozy Cruiser :(
I have been watching for these to come out and have been telling all of my Motorcycle friends about it.
As I am not a Motorcycle traveller, but love Teardrops.......and the concept of this one, I am disappointed that it did not happen.
I have just retired from my business (Street Rod Shop) and am tempted to check out what it would take to manufacture or at least build on a pre ordered basis.
Love it!!
