Greetings from a newcomer, and thanks for all the help I have already received just from reading the forum!
I am planning to build my retirement escape pod, in the form of a TD, of course. If all goes well, I hope to retire in the summer of 2015, and I plan to have my TD complete by then.
I suspect i will change my mind (and my plans) numerous times, but here is my current plan: to build from the classic Benroy plans, but to build a 5X8 on the 4X8 HF trailer kit. I will tow behind my Saturn SL1, so weight is obviously a concern!
I'm presently leaning toward a sandwich floor with 1/4 plywood and foam insulation, since i want to build up over the wheels anyway. For the walls, I am considering 1/4 ply outside, 1/2 foam insulation, and 1/4 or 1/8 ply inside.
That's the current thinking, but I would welcome insights and tips from all you veteran builders out there. I need all the help i can get!
Thanks again in advance. Someday i hope to be able to help out newcomers to the TD world.
Oh and by the way, I teach automotive repair at a community college. And the trailer will be occupied by my wife and me, if that info helps.
