Night at Point Mugu State Park, CA

Postby Marie » Mon Feb 24, 2014 4:51 pm

My husband, Tom & I finally got the teardrop out for a short trip up the California coast to Point Mugu State Park.
We stayed at the Sycamore Canyon campground which is just across the road from the ocean. (campground has tunnel under road to beach)
Lots of hiking & bike trails as well as the ocean all this just over an hour from Los Angeles so it gets busy & the campground full almost every weekend.
Since we couldn't get there till Saturday & I wanted to make sure we got a site I made reservations online. We arrived at 11 Saturday morning picked site 57 & spent the rest of the day reading on the beach. Sunday morning we went for an early hike came back had a late breakfast & headed home.
I love how easy it is to pack up & go with my teardrop!!

Looks like a great place - the beach, the canyons, and the mountains a couple of hours away.

Lived in Port Hueneme and Oxnard in the early 1960s but never visited the park, if it even existed back then.

I do recall surfing in the mornings, sliding down the immense sand dunes across the highway, and trying to climb the iconic Point Mugu Rock. When the fog cleared and you could see snow on the mountains and drive up there for the afternoon.

No reservations required.

Hey Marie, I can't wait til We get our Cozy Cruiser, we're supposed to pick it up in May. We used to live in the L.A. area, but I have never been to that campground, it sounds nice. We moved to the Seattle area in 86, there are also alot of places to camp in Wa. within 1-3hrs. of our home, except its a little cold right now for us. How long have you had your CC? And have you been happy with it?

Hi, M C Toyer Not sure if Point Mugu was a park in the 60's or not but still the same great activities just a lot more people out there doing them.
Had a small sail boat in Oxnard for years & love that area...we just keep going back to enjoy.
Hi Racquetman, We got our Cozy Cruiser this past Aug. Drove up there got it and then took a week driving back to LA along the coast. Our first night in our tear was at Cape Blanco State Park OR & loved it. Check out my gallery on some of the other places we have been with our tear. Be sure to post pictures when you pick up your new Cozy Cruiser. Which style did you get?

Marie, It sounds like you guys had a great time on the way home, thats kinda what we are going to do, only going north. We ordered a classic deluxe with a rhino rack and a couple of other modifications, we still don't know exactly where our two black labs will sleep, looking for a side tent! We won't bring the dogs on the first couple of trips, or until we figure out the sleeping arrangements!

Hey Ernie
Do you have a delivery date yet?
Is there any possibility that you might make the Dam? or the Gorge?

Not the Dam for sure, but a small possibilty for the Gorge, but I would think We're to late to sign-up for the Gorge, and if I did sign-up, I might not have the trailer on time. I was thinking about going and just finding a motel in the area and just making a visit and meeting some people and checking out some trailers, thats a possibility. There is also a chance the trailer could be ready the week of the 16th, and if so the plan was to pick it up in the Eugene area, and then take a long weekend and camp on the way home. So you see our plans are kinda up in the air without a for sure date. Ernie

I thought that might be a Navy uniform in your avatar. Were you ever stationed at NAS Point Mugu or the SeaBee Center at Hueneme? I see they are now a combined command.

I was a civilian in those days, free to roam. We lived in a series of beach vacation houses usually for about 50 - 75 bucks a month. I guess those days are over too.

Hey Vedette, We did sign up for the IRG, it seems like it was quite awhile ago, but We have'nt got a confirmation yet, have you? It has me wondering if they are just slow on giving confirmations or maybe they are full, but then I'm sure I get my money back and an explanation, I may just send an email or give someone a call. Oh well, we'll see. But I would love to meet you guys sometime this season, lets make that happen! Ernie

Have you checked out their website and e-mailed Dean?
As of Yesterday they were still waiting to hear from 2 of the 35 stolen registrations.
Dean & Jaonie are very good about getting back to you.
Do to the top of this page, under TD Friendly Websites, select Pamplingrove, then click on "news" for the latest updates.
Glad to hear you are going. If we meet you at the Gorge we will talk about travel plans to the IRG.
