Postby SmokeyBear12 » Tue Mar 04, 2014 9:48 pm

Originally (well, most recently, anyway), "Clamshell" was the term T@B attached to their model that had the galley outside in the rear in typical teardrop fashion ... apparently, several folks have adopted that term to describe any outside galley that is under a lift-up lid/hatch. Interestingly, T@B never referred to their trailer as a "Teardrop" ... even the "Clamshell" version (you can draw what ever conclusion from that that you want to ... ;) ...!).

Well, that helps. Sort of. Are you saying there are some teardrops that have an inside galley that is not under the rear hatch? I thought that was pretty much a standard for teardrops. More :?

I thought a clamshell was more like Len Dadonna's PacMan.

It has always been my understanding that in order to call it a "teardrop trailer", 3 things had to be present. it had to be low enough, so that you can't stand in it, be able to sleep 2, and have an outside galley located under the rear hatchlid. If I'm wrong, please correct me.

Nope, that's not what I said at all! The only "Teardrops" that have an inside galley are the KampMaster/Wild Goose and similar versions, and they're under the rear lift-up hatch. Maybe you are confusing T@B with a "Teardrop", which it is not (and as I stated, not even the mfg. would call it a "Teardrop"), even though it is teardrop shaped.

Yes, some folks are still confused about exactly what a "Teardrop" is, and many many people still want to put their own personal twist on the definition ... which is O.K., I guess ... but, it can be a little subjective. The more you hang around, the more you are involved, the easier it will be for you ... in the meantime, just enjoy what everyone has contributed here and build what suites your needs ... and don't worry too much what to call it, except YOUR'S ... ...!

Yeah, that's what I thought, although I'll add that it has to have that classic "teardrop" shape. Anything else is just a tiny trailer. I do take exception to sleeps 2, though: mine only sleeps one.

So..... "clamshell" is a general term to describe anything the speaker/writer deems it to be.

Bingo Roly, the only thing I'd put at the front of the list is that a true 'teardrop trailer' must be a teardrop shape too. Then again, that's just me.

Cheers,

T@B calls one of their campers a clamshell. It is the one that has the outside galley in the back like a teardrop. Both the original manufacturers of T@B and Little Guy had/have that design. Little guy has their clamshells on the market now.

I could call my Dog Bob too. But that don't make him Human!

A clam shell opens from one end to the other. Kinda like a "Clam"

I simply mentioned where I heard the term "clamshell" before relating to campers!
