Roof Skin Attachment at bottom of Front Radius

Postby Watercamper » Wed Mar 12, 2014 9:07 am

I'm looking for a photo or a sketch that shows the details of the connection of the front roof skin to the front frame of the trailer in a TD such as the Grumman 2 that has a radius at the bottom. My thoughts are to simply make a custom spar for this area that attaches to the side skins and the trailer frame. The area between the spar and the metal would be appropriately sealed. Then the roof skin can wrap over it and be attached/sealed. Alternatively, I could simply position a normally shaped spar between the sides and forget about attaching it to the trailer frame. Is there a preferred method??

Obviously there are many ways to build. What's missing in your discussion is the mention of your floor.

For me, the last spar is attached to the floor and the walls. The floor is attached to the trailer chassis - not the spar.

Thanks Tony. After posing my question and thinking about it a little, I did just what you said. I re-drew this area such that everything intersected - the floor, the side walls and the front skin. It should work fine now and be easy to build.

I just split a 1x1 on a 45 degree angle. One half glued to top of floor for ceiling, the other to the front edge of the floor.

Those pictures are good!

What if a person wants the curve to continue under the trailer, to cover the steel frame?
