"Gocamp" a 4x8 hf build (first trip finished)

Ok so I decided it was time to start a new trailer. I had some other pics of the trailer and all of the upgrades made to it but I can't find the cord for my digital cam so i had to start with my cell phone for now. Just so you know the trailer is a 1720# hf 4x8 trailer. I totally coated it with rubberized undercoating and added swing down jacks to the back.
So on to the good stuff the start of the box for it and the doors and windows I will be using.




I have more progress made than this but this should get it started.

Well, there is no going back now! What is the setup you are making.? Is there a galley? It's hard to tell from the one side what the plan is. Have fun making sawdust and keep us posted with pictures.

The set up will be 80 inches of sleeping area towards the back with the rest being inside storage to the front. rear a/c, front tongue box, no galley. The construction is 3/4 ply for the floor, sides and back. 1/2 inch for the roof and front. all skinned in aluminum with 1 door and 2 windows.

Thanks, now I see what you are doing. I was trying to figure out if you were doing a galley. Have fun with the build, it's a big of the experience.

So here is a couple more pics with the build on the trailer. I bolted the entire box to the frame with carriage bolts and self tappers.


I also had the bottom coated in black fence paint, and used a plastic spacer to offset the gap on the inner rails. You can also see where i did away with the tilting part with grade 8 bolts.

are you sure you want the door there? most of us have the door(s) located so that we can pivot on one cheek and drop our feet out the door, a door at the end like that will require some crawling around to get in and out of bed. Just saying it, as moving the door would be much easier now.

Yeah i did want the door that way but unfortunately i didn't have the height in the front to put the door and keep the more aerodynamic shape. I will have to crawl into the bed but shouldn't be to big of a problem.

ok so here are some of the pics of the carpet i will be using for the inside floor,wall, and ceiling.
It's a commercial grade felt like material used for trunk liner and speaker box covering.
I prefer to use contact cement to install it as the spray stuff usually turns loose in time.
Bought a entire roll 150ft in case of miss cuts and it was cheaper to buy it that way.

I just use the weldwood brand contact cement available at most big box stores.

I chose to do the floor a half at the time.


AND THEN I GO AND SCREW UP LOL!!!! I forgot to cut out my a/c opening before i put the floor carpet down

It turned out ok in the end as the sawdust swept out fairly easily and what didn't will be vacuumed out anyways.
Actually the carpet is turning out to be considerably easy to work with but i did have to make
another run to the store for more contact cement as it goes pretty quickly. Used about half a quart for each 4x8 panel.

So here is the rest of the inside carpeted. I had to do all the inside so that i can install the
front storage area which will be carpeted before install to make life much easier.
this is the back wall before i finished the cutout for the a/c.

the driver side wall you can still see some slight slivers of wall i will patch those and the bed hides that anyways.

and the sidewall and front. i will have to vacuum everything from tracking stuff in installing the walls.

and then a shot of the whole inside carpeted to this point.

the back wall still needs to be trimmed for a nice clean flush look at the bottom but when done the seam wont even be noticeable.

I really like the unique profile. It has a pleasing proportion and curvature, without complicating things too much at all. I bet a more typical shorter wider door could be fit in the regular location.

I know that hind sight is 20/20, but I'll throw it out there for the next time. If you had some paint that was a close match to the carpet you could have painted the corners out an inch or two, then when the carpet doesn't join perfectly in the corner it wouldn't be noticeable. Just a thought for next time, or anyone else who may want to do something similar.

Like you said, it will be under the mattress anyway.

Thank you on the profile aspect! I tend to lean more to the modern look just my preference.
I did it for several reasons though, to make the constructions simpler and make the wood usage work out better.
The shorter wider doors would work perfectly if they weren't so darn expensive.

The paint thing is an awesome idea and would work perfectly, when i did the other wall i let the bottom fold in
and was able to trim it perfectly guess i should have thought of that from the start. It has been a while since my car stereo days lol

So I was able to get some more done to the trailer yesterday.
I got the inside storage cabinet complete and the front fully attached.
I cut the front of it in one piece

I then painted the backside (inside) and the edges and a little on the front black.


I cut and carpeted the inside divider and installed it to the front piece

and went ahead and did the shelves to make it easier


and putting it in was a breeze

by adding the storage it allowed me to finish securing the front wall

You certainly don't lose any time. On the divider piece in the storage area, what is the "notch" at the top? I don't see a rib or spar anywhere. thanks. Mike

Thank you. That was one of the reason for the design i am building It makes for a quick build counting trailer assembly and paint I will have just over a week-week and ahalf in the entire build

It is for a spar to secure the top of the front wall, if you look at the front wall with the clamps they are holding it flush for screwing it down.

I should have the roof on today and some spar varnishing done.
