Homemade Windows

Being a little disgusted with the availability and cost of windows I am contemplating this design:

I want some lightweight awning windows with a pretty good open area that is down low on the tear, and simple operation (not too tall an order). So I am thinking oak frames, lexan window, fiberglass screening, 18" square will fit in my doors ok. Screens will be velcroed inside. Window will be piano-hinged at the top, and held closed by embedded rare-earth magnets in the frame (1/4" cylinder magnets from Lee Valley, powerful little things). To operate: pop open screen, push out window at bottom, place in small prop-rod (dowel or popsicle affair, could have a couple sizes avail), replace screen. Reverse to close.

I am thinking maybe 3-4 magnet sets (1/4" x 1/4" rod magnet has ~5 lb pull strength). Could even add a small catch for safety.

You should make the cut under the magnets at an angle. That way it will shed any water that would accumulate. Only reason I say that is because my crank out windows are made like that.

I would also add the safety catch and not rely on the magnets alone to seal and hold closed the windows.........
