IRG Pinewood Derby info..got scales?

I will be bringing the Pinewood Derby track to the 2014 Dam Gathering and IRG . So bring your cars from last year or build new ones.

This track and racing parameters are based on the Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby Races.

It is my recommendation that you DO NOT get creative, just buy a kit and modify it to your liking. The kit will have the wheels and the body will already be the correct size for the track. The races are more fun when the cars are of similar size and form. Kits are available on the net or at any hobby store near you.

There will be three classes 1. Regular Boy Scout Rules - 5oz limit. 2. Regular cars 5oz limit with trailer. 3. Unlimited class up to 16oz.

This is a self police state of racing. There may or may not be a scale so pre weigh your cars for the class you want to race in.

Cars that weigh over 16oz will not be allowed to race - no exceptions, they break the track.

The races were fun last year and the level of car building was outstanding, so if you want to win you will have to step it up. There is a ton of information on the net about making your car competitive.

This is your chance to relive your childhood. Times and days of the race TBA.

I am thinking Friday and Saturday at 11:00 am. If there is no other conflict. Remember we are camping so times may be a little flexible.

This is a race. Its a competition. There will be winners and losers. If you believe you are going to be a winner of the races feel free to howl it here.

I will have some prizes - lanterns and stoves and stuff but feel free to bring prizes as you see fit.

Kirk...Lee will be at the IRG I believe, and he has a scale. I have one that will work also if he isn't attending. They really need to be weighed to cut out all potential post race discussion. What will be fun is that you can run a car in the regular heats, then attach a trailer to run in the combo heats. Kirk has posted all the info, and the axle and rough body kits are available at lots of outlets. In the past, the races were a lot of fun and there was a lot of attendance. Let's see if we can create that fun again! Doug

Hi Danny, If you want to run three wheels thats ok with me. I know that has become popular. For this years races lets just say its ok to go on three wheels. If the three wheelers beat the hell out of everyone then maybe we will create a new class.

I am more prepared this year. I have racing brackets made up and ready for race day.

The more racers we have the more fun it will be. I will have kits available at camp if you forget your car or decide at the last moment to race. I have about 12 kits, weights and graphite.

Dont be the one left out of the fun. Get a car and race it. Its what all the cool kids will be doing!

Now is the time to make sure you get a racer together. This thread has all the info for your build. Kits are available at lots of locations. For me, I thought it wasn't going to happen, now I gotta locate a kit and get a DougKraft entry together for the "nationals" or in this case....the "internationals". Don't be a stand by person and just watch it happen, build one and be part of the action! Doug

Campmaster, met you at the Dam Gathering (the other Chev Colorado). After you left the Dam Gathering I found what I think to be is one of your "store" bought cars in the area of where you had the track set up. I put it in the glove box of my truck thinking I may see you at the IRG and after reading this I see you will be there. I will get it back to you than. T. Hoefer Camano Island, Wash.
