The mattress that came with my TD is way too soft. Is there a firm pad I can buy or where can I buy a new firm mattress? Anybody with experience with these RV mattresses?

Hey Scotty, I see your still working on your mattress change! We picked our trailer up a week ago Sat. and camped two nights, and we were reasonably comfortable, but we're gonna get a topper of some kind, we think it could be more padded, a mattress is a very personal thing when it comes to comfort. We also ended up not getting the rack, jayson did'nt feel comfortable putting one on, so we decided not to do it. How ever we did add a solar system, to make sure we had enough battery power with the fridge and some other stuff we have to power. Any way, good luck with your mattress search, maybe we'll run into you some day down the road, Ernie

Hi Ernie, thanks for the tips. I was also thinking of getting a firm mattress pad, but unsure if I should just get a new mattress. I saw a pad on amazon that had good reviews. I also want a roof rack in the future. I notice the Maxx Fan is a little higher in profile than the fantastic fan and the rack would have to be higher than usual. What was the reason why Jayson didn't want to install a roof rack?

Hey Scotty-pac, I think the main reason Jayson was hesitating on the roof rack was partly because of the height of the vent, but also because He said there is'nt enough flat surface on the roof of the TD, and He also gave me the impression that He had some concern about the structure itself, but you should give Him a call, there might be some other reason!

I bought open cell foam for my mattress and it's just a bit soft for my preference but it was in-expensive and got me camping. Closed cell foam is firmer, lasts longer and is more expensive. The extra cost is warranted for your TD Dream machine.
After I cut the foam to fit the floor, I cut it in half lenghtwise on a diagonal. By cutting the center on a diagonal, you don't fall into the gap in the center when sleeping. i can stack the two sheets for travel or sitting.
My ex covered the sheets with denim. Zippered for easy removal and laundering.

I bought an RV Queen size 8 inch thick memory foam mattress for my teardrop. Comes in 3 layers so it is easy to get through a small door. My wife thinks it is more comfortable than our home mattress that we paid around $800 for.

I was using a futon mattress that was too firm and gave not support. Just picked up a gel foam / memory foam topper (2 1/2") from Sams club.
Last one and 50% off. Tried it last night on top of the futon and slept like a baby.

Shadow Catcher, I ordered from the foam factory like you recommended. I choose the 5 inch firm foam and bought a topper. Perfect! Slept like a baby. Just came back from a surf camping trip and had a blast. Thanks for tips.

After two camping trips (4 nights) and 3 test sleep-ins at home, I was perfectly comfortable on my three-inch Ikea foam mattress. However, I am putting in a second, identical, mattress with its own waterproof covering, as a underlayment to meet my wife's requirements. She likes it very soft (6 total inches of foam should be enough, don't you think?), whereas I usually do not. However, at my age, I can fall asleep at anytime, on anything!

Hi Ernie, yes if you go on the website you can order any size you want. And you can buy a cover at an extra cost, which I did. The packaging it comes in is pretty compact and amazing. It's in a bag that gets all the air sucked out to compress it. When I got it I was thinking man there's no way a mattress can fit in there. Then I cut the bag and it popped open. Firm and nice.

Now I put the mattress the Cozy Cruiser came with in the living room so my 9 month old can crawl on it. Doesn't look that good there, but when 100's of toys all over the place is already an eye sore.

I bought this one for my trailer and I am very happy with it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RV-Truck-Mattre ... 2c8216206d Some people don't like memory foam, but I find mine to be very comfortable and always get an excellent night's sleep. I did alter mine however: I took the two bottom layers and cut them with an electric knife so I could make cushions to fit the dinette across the back of my trailer. The cushions are then laid down as the mattress base and the top 1" piece of foam is placed on top of that, giving me at least 7" of thickness.

Thanks for the info. on that mattress web site, I checked it out, then my wife came home today with a 3" topper with a cover, she picked it up at costco for 80.00, we're gonna give that a try on top of the CC mattress, and we'll see how that works out.
