While my roof coating is drying on the insides of my fenders, I decided to give the outside another coat of white paint. I didn't feel like cleaning up a paint sprayer, so I used Krylon white gloss in a spray can. You know that spray cans don't give the greatest coverage and can leave streaks. But, I read on the can that to remove overspray, use paint thinnner. So, I put thinner in my HF sprayer and after shooting the fender section with the spray can, I hit it with a couple of passes with the thinner and it really smoothed out the finish and the sprayer is still clean.
Yesterday, when putting in one window, I used clear sealant, but it still made a mess along the edges to have to wipe up with thinner and a cloth. So, on the 2nd one, I put a strip of masking tape around the window, about 1/8" from the metal. After the sealant was squeezed out, I smoothed out the sealant (with my finger as I always do), and the extra was on the tape, not the wall. I just removed the tape and all the extra mess along with it. Just DON'T FORGET TO REMOVE IT RIGHT AWAY!!!. I used the same technique on my door installation today, and forgot to pull the tape off until a half hour later. By then, the sealant was setting up and it made a ragged line when I pulled off the tape and I had to smooth it down with thinner and a cloth, and it's still not as smooth as I'd like, but, it's not too noticable..
