yard sales

This time of year brings out the good junk at yard sales,, some of the neighbors had one this morning and of course I had to check out their junk,,, scored big time,,,

Coleman dual fuel single burner stove,,, still in the box, used only a couple times,,$3.00,,,, Coleman dual fuel camp light with extra mantels, still n box, couple uses out of it also,, $3.00 ,,,,,and they threw in 2 mini coleman fuel bottles that were new,,,

then in a raggedy bag was an older Canon 35SLR with three lensand misc accessories,, now I have no idea what the actual value of the cannon is but for 30 bucks I just had to have it,, and it works,,,, Its a FTb Canon with a quick load feature,, any ideas as to the real value of this camera,,, I am sure its more than I paid for it,,, any photography gurus know anything about this camera and its approx value,,??

I still have one of the Canon FTbs but it's not in very good shape, it was used to it's fullest.

I had an FTB once, traded it for an AE1. Stupidest thing I ever did. Worth about $200 up here if you can find one. Can be used totally manual, which means you have to think when taking a picture... Great SLR, wish I kept it. Great find Chip!!!

thanks for the links guys,,, I am not a photographer by any means ,, I usually buy the throw aways,, but I use to use a 35 and liked the pictures I got,,, just not instant gratufication like the digital ones,,,

think I ll keep it and take er camping,,

It is a tank but seems to have very good reviews and for your 30 bucks into it... well da pickle juice can spill on it and there won't be any crying.

Yard sale .....the wife and I have been trying to have one for the last 5 years , hopefully this year , I would really like to put the Tear away inside for the winter( she said the Family room was a definite NO! ) Anyway I found a Pentax K1000 a few years back in near mint shape for 50 bucks, love totally manual , like you said Chip you actaully have to think before you shoot........

It's amazing the stuff you can get at garage sales. Has any body here tried freecycle? The web page is http://www.freecycle.org/. It's stuff that people want to get rid of but don't want to go through the bother of selling it and don't want to send it to the dump.

One of the things that I've gotten is a pop-up camper trailer for free. The box on the trailer was about 6' 7" by 10' 7". Most of the wood was rotten but that is going to be the frame for my TTT. [/url]

I love yard sales. We do local antique flea markets so I am always garage/yard saleing. I have had a couple of Canon FTB's. I usually sell them for $50-70 and the lenses (if they are Canon) also for $25-35 each. You did good!

We love yard sales too. Hit a neighborhood sale today, and picked up some great travel & hiking books for a quarter each, and a brand new Epson color printer, still in the box for $15. Saw a new coupler for just $4, but it was for a 1 7/8" ball, and I have 2" on all of my other trailers, so I passed on it.

I found a 110 volt breaker panel from a camper ($2), 30 amp power cord ($5), miscelaneous 12 volt lights($.50 - $5.00), a pair of wheels ($7), and a water tank ($2) for my TD at yard sales. Also picked up a 10" cast iron Wagner frying pan ($10), NordicWare waffle iron ($2), new propane lantern with case ($5), camp chairs ($2 ea), 5000 btu air conditioner ($15)and other miscealneous camping geat at yard sales and thrift shops.

Really messed up a couple of years ago when I passed up a nice 1960 TTT for $200. Thought about it after I left the sale and decided I should go back and get it, but by the time I got back, it was sold.

I used to use my dad's SLRs in Middle school and High school. I used them until my (now wife) got an Olympus Stylus. The Olympus took really good pictures AND I could keep it in my pocket.

After years of point and shoots, we recently bought a Canon Rebel XT. I still like to manually focus on occasion, but I find it difficult because the viewfinder doesn't have the focusing aid (circle) in it. Other than that, I'm really happy with it.
