Started my own build!!!

Postby Dagon93 » Sat May 06, 2006 10:02 pm

Hello all! I have been lurking for a bit and have finally gotten the "start" of my Tear going. At first all I had was the 5'X8" angle box welded together and some 1/4" wood for some of the galley. But in the last couple of weeks I have been working extra and got alittle more cash coming in and got my floor ply and side pieces cut and I couldn't resist screwing them together and taking a couple of pics. So without futher ado here they are! Enjoy and any helpful tips are welcome!

Not when the frame you're looking at was this....

John are you just building it out in the open? Or have you bought one of those "car port tents"? I bought one of those for me and my friends for the Winfeild Bluegrass Fest in Sept., because the place that we have been camping in for about 7 years has no shade what so ever. But the "tent" is 10' X 20' and has pretty sound 2" tubing as the frame.

Welcome to the board , the teardrop build excitement and the every growing South Central Tears!! Good to see your in Wichita, I'm in OKC and you've got WarPony north of ya in Topeka.

Doesn't it feel good to have some shape to the build?! YOU BET! My sides are up and have been for a week, hope to do some spars today .
Then have to wait for some $$ to do much more.

Welcome and keep us posted on the progress !!! Hope we see you at a campout / gathering this fall!

Looks like a real good start! Remember the real fun comes when you can use it! Step by step you'll soon be camping. Thanks for pics.

Looks like you got a good start. What size angle did you use for the frame and what thickness are the plywood walls?

Walls are 1/4" ply I am making the wall studs tomorrow. The angle iron is 2"X2" X1/8" I tested the flex of the frame and came up with nill so with the floor and tounge bolted and welded on I should have one stout frame! If I get enough done tomorrow I'll post pics afterward. Also instead of Alum. sheeting for the outer skin I am supposed to be getting some 1/8 or 3/16" ABS or some such plastic sheeting one side has a texture and the other side is smooth so I'll have a choice to it( I still have to find out if it's Uv protected) if not I have a guy who will give me some alum sheets. I still can't wait to get this thing done and do some campin'!!!
