My Tiny Trailer Project

Postby nathan.land » Wed Apr 30, 2014 6:05 pm

I am pretty new to the forum and am about 2 weeks in to my build. My trailer is not a traditional tear drop. It just has the rounded front with a squared off back end. My trailer is 5x8 and so far it has been a fun build. I welcome any tips from guys who have already made mistakes and learned from them or realized a better way to do something. My build is very stout in design because it will eventually have a rack with two kayaks. I will post some pics of the progression this far in the build.

Welcome, Nathan. Your build is kind of a cross between a Simple and a Rimple; or, sort of a rounded Simple: http://www.angib.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/t ... tear00.htm.
I thought about a Simple/Rimple of your same design; but, my build just kept changing and getting more complex, as sometimes happens.
It looks like you're making good progress. Have you or will you be building a bunk across the non-air conditioner end for the little one who is in the pictures?

I don't plan on having A/C in my TD, but have read a lot of posts where people have had problems.

A lot of people avoid front mounted units because driving rain tends to find its way thru and around them. You should plan to make a travel cover for yours; one that seals against driving rain.

Another thing to look out for is that most modern A/C's keep some of the condensed water in the pan so that the fan can splash this up onto the condenser for efficient operation. You will need to add a provision to drain this water prior to travel (but still allow it to accumulate in use for proper function) otherwise it can slosh out and get on your bedding.

A Simple/Rimple was on my short list when I first got started doing this. If there is ever a second build for me it will be simpler.

I have no idea why my previous post kept saying amazing, but anyway I got some help with an extra set of hands over the weekend and made a lot of progress.

Now to skin the door, build and skin the a/c cover and trim everything. I can see some light at the end if the tunnel.

Looks good! Where did you find the window for the side door?

I got the window at Lowe's for I believe $38 because the RV windows were just to high with shipping.

And the trim starts to go on, this thing is beginning to look like a camper after all.

Outside is getting very close to being done. That galley is still far from done.
