Cowboy,

All I can say is that if the Kampmaster brings up sad memories, I think you should go in the opposite direction. You should make something that you happy. Think about your needs. You could make a stretched teardrop for sure or how about a Scotty or Shasta look alike. You're imagine is limitless. I've been a lurker around here for many years, I pop in and pop out and I always enjoy the different builds. 2 that sick out in my mind were a standy called "Puffin" and a yellow contraption that looked sort of like a submarine. The talent around here just amazes me. I know I haven't been much help, so I'll step aside and let someone else give you some suggestions. Just know that whatever you build, I'll be watching and cheering you on!

Plus one on that! Build what makes you happy!

After building my first, 6x 10 teardrop, I know my next one would be a 6x12 with a little smaller galley in the back. Queen size bed. The front 4 feet of the tear would be a 2 foot isle with drop box below and trolley top above for standing dressing. I can dress laying down, but I sure like standing up better. A 2 foot 2 person dinette booth smack in the front of the tear. My first camp trip in my tear was in the wind and rain. I would like a place to sit inside, out of the weather, to read or play games. The space I took out of the kitchen would be made up in under seat storage in the dinette. Not quite a camp master, but a maybe stretched tear. But that is all me.

My advice stands. Build what makes you happy! 8)

If you are scrapping an RV and have the parts, why not go ahead and build a small standy? Something like 12'. If you build a Kampmaster, you're still going to have to set it up, not a real good time in wet weather, and it will have some canvas that will need to be dried out later if you fold it up wet. A small standy would be much less engineering, easier to make weather tight and more user friendly in marginal weather conditions. It sounds like you have the appliances to use. Take the tear in great weather, the standy if it looks like rain and snow. Doug

I always found the Kampmaster design intriguing, mostly for the ability to stand up in it.

But for me, the following negatives outweighed the positives:

1) 6 ft. wide makes it more unwieldy than a narrower trailer and would require towing mirrors. Backing up would be more of a pain

2) heavier than I could or would want to tow behind a compact SUV. Might be different if I had a truck

3) extra weight & size = poorer fuel economy and therefore higher costs per trip

4) canvas - one of the things I like about teardrops vs. tents is no fabric to have to fold up, and dry out after a rainstorm or heavy dew

5) I prefer cooking outdoors on a picnic table or rear galley where food smells and condensation inside a trailer are not a problem

6) In general I prefer simplicity over complexity - less to go wrong...

Anyway, that's just me.

I think if you have the goody's Why not a Midget Trailer http://www.angib.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/teardrop/tear37.htm You can cook out side no oil cover interior. you can BS with everyone that comes by. And on relation ships when you know there first name there goes the mystery 8)
