AC unit install help needed

Need some ideas on how you guys installed a window AC unit in your trailers?

The cheap ones I found at Walmart are nothing more than a sheet metal covered box with no real brackets or such for a sturdy mounting... even with self tapping screws I would think the weight of it shaking while driving would be certain death and rip out of the sheet metal covering in

Any ideas or how you solved the mounting issues?

Find a trailer cargo door that the a/c will slide through and install the cargo door on the trailer. When you need to use the a/c, you just open the cargo door and slide the a/c out. When traveling, the a/c is inside the trailer and secured so it doesn't move. That's how I did mine and it works well.

I don't have any photos at the moment but.... We are installing ours in the middle of back cabin cabinets. The back side of it will be selaed to the galley, and will vent downward to the road through a small chase. There will be fans in the bottom of the chase to force air over the backside. Hoping it works well, in theory it should have plenty of air flow over the back. Have seen similar and we sort of built out idea from there.

I built a tray for mine to ride on, it'll have sheet metal screws going into the sides of the unit to hold it down and keep it from moving out of position, but the weight will be carried by the tray itself. When retracted, the AC sticks ~3" into the sleeping area, so I may remove it whenever we go camping at a non-electric site.

I saw that! I like your tray! I think it needs waterproofing though. Condensate and moisture from the unit running will damage the wood if it is not sealed.

My unit has one drain hole off to the side, I'm going to cut a 2" hole in that area of the tray so it will drip straight through. And its all MDO, so a few coats of paint and I'm golden.

Mine is an LG, model LW5012J, installed permanently; it's mounted thru the rear 3/4" bulkhead wall (opening cut to minimum size, just enough to "squeeze" it into place). The A/C has a bottom channel that rests on top of the wall, and another top piece that both locates the A/C in position (I used 1/2" oak boards on both sides of the wall as a "surround" to clamp it in place, with 1/4" bolts), and angles the unit rearward for proper drainage. I built a drainage system, to fit under the unit (and the 90 degree-turn ducting), that also serves as a support stand for the unit, and as a housing for the water jug at camp. After about 750 miles total road miles travel, there's been no hint of the unit becoming loose in its mounts, as it is only 42 lbs, and secured well.

I have seen several mounted in the galley. How does this work? Does the hatch have to remain open to run the a/c? Where does it drain?

I would love to add a/c but don't want it hanging out of the side.
