Line-X Bedliner for Exterior protection?

Postby Chinookered » Sat May 10, 2014 10:49 am

I didn't know if this has been brought up before, but has anyone done a TD and used a Line-X bedliner style application for their entire exterior or part of it? I was thinking about doing it for the underside and perhaps partway up the side. With today's color choices and proven professional application, it seems like a really good quality way to seal the exterior. I would love your feedback if anyone else has had this done this for weatherproofing or not.

Thanks!

You can use Monstaliner two part bedliner and do it yourself with a roller. The Monstaliner doesn't have any rubber crumbles it it so it doesn't get as dirty. It is just like extra thick paint and the provided (it the kit) texture roller helps lift it for a pebbled texture. You can adjust the texture by thinning it slightly. I think it looks like it was professionally done but DIY. Lots of jeep forums discuss Monstaliner. The Monstaliner web site also compares it against other major brands

There are several other builds that used various brands of bedliner, search the forum for bedliner and check them out.

We sprayed the two part black bedliner under my floor after it was attached to my chassis to seal it. So far it's been worry free.

Cheers,

Mine was sprayed professionally by the Rhino lining guys
and then top coated with automotive spray paint and clear coated.
It has been outside since 2007 and absolutely no problems at all.
Looks like the day it was done.
Any questions pm me and pictures of it is in my album.

I did two costs of primer, two of paint and two rolled coats of Herculiner for undercoating, mainly intending the Herculiner for rock chip protection, while the paint and primer provide weather sealing.

I i have not use it but other have.

I saw this TD, and talked to the guy at the Grand canyon last year while heading to the Damn gathering of the tears. He had a buddy spray on bedliner for the front top and hatch. He said if he did another one he would do the whole TD in it.

That present would look good under any tree. I is also a great idea for when you run out of duct tape while wrapping Christmas presents. :D

Any dark colors (bedliner or paint) will devour the suns warming rays. It may be durable, but it will turn your camper into a giant heatsink. Just a thought.

I would agree. I've noticed with at least the line-x professional application is that they can use literally any color now days, not just the old traditional black. So if I wanted a lighter color or white, I could certainly do that.

I will paint my fiberglassed teardrop white to keep its heat gain down.

My well insulated house HAD a nearly flat roof with a red cap sheet. In hot weather the interior of the house would get uncomfortably warm...sometimes into the mid 80's and above. Last fall we had the roof professionally coated with a white elastomeric sealer. The last few days have had daytime temperatures just shy of 100 degrees. Inside the house it only warmed up to the mid 70's. It's a huge improvement in comfort all due to a white colored roof that reflects light and heat.
 8) :)
With that experience freshly in mind I feel much more strongly that it's wise to have a  light colored teardrop, not a  dark colored one.

Painting roofs white is a big deal. Bill Clinton is a big supporter of this as a global effort to conserve energy and stimulate the economy.

That is a good article about the benefits of white roofs.

Not only is my house much cooler inside with a white roof, It also saved about 2/3 of the cost to tear off the existing roof and install a new roof. The initial roof sealing and coating was built-up with three layers of commercial grade elastomeric materials. The elastomeric coating can be maintained by recoating it from time to time, maybe in 5 to 10 year intervals, to extend the life of the roof for many decades. Maintenance, as needed, should be even more affordable because it can be done with one new top coat.
Sorry to hijack the thread. Back to colors of teardrops. I'm sold on using light colors for greater comfort. 8)
