Living hinge question

Postby NathanL » Wed May 14, 2014 12:31 pm

What width of the living hinge are most people using and had good experience with? I had planned to use a hurricane hinge but for the sake of time and reducing complexity for a variety of issues I'm thinking of using the plastic hinge. I have a piece of the extreme duty from McMaster Carr that is long enough that I picked up for whatever reason for something else that is 2" wide. Anyone have a problem not going with the 3" hinge?

I used 2" living hinge on my hatch and side doors. I used 1" wide aluminum strips and offset the holes from center, so that the screws would hit deeper into the plastic hinge.

It works fine on the hatch, but my doors won't open much past 90 degrees because the aluminum strips hit each other.

So far, everything has held up fine.
