Started Today

I started my build today!! I went to home depot yesterday, bought the framing for the basement. Brought home, cut up and put some waterproofer on the boards...


But one big disappointment.. I assumed the 2x6's were 8' long, unfortunately they are 4 inches short... and I didn't realize it until I had it all put together... luckily I only need to replace the two outside boards, and move the back board a couple of inches back.....

Will try to find some time this week before the weekend to do more!

It sounds like you bought the pre-cut studs. They're cut for 8' wall framing on a house and are usually "short" to accommodate the bottom plate and two layers of top plate (usually 4 1/2"). Is the floor going to be the frame as well and used to mount an axle?

YEP, that is what the pink/purple color indicates. just re cut and move your end pieces to the outside of the 8 foot'ish pieces to gain 3 inches in length.

Figures!! I just talked to a carpenter I work with and he said the same thing... I guess it would of been nice if it was marked a little better.... oh well... I am not planning on putting a back 2x6 on... so I will just pick up 2 new 8 footers....

No this box will slide in and out of a 5 x 8 utility trailer... so nothing will be attached to the bottom.. That way I can still use the trailer as a Utility trailer... to haul tools... or kayaks etc... when I am not camping...

Purchased the right size 2x6's and some plywood today! Hopefully tomorrow I can redo the basement framing... I also need to try to flatten the plywood out first they have quite a Bow in them.

I was thinking of pulling a few of the appliances out of my travel trailer, that is pretty much a guest house now... and use the Stove... and maybe even the hot water tank... But a friend told me today he was scrapping out his old tent trailer, and it has a 3 burner stove that is removable from inside and also able to mount it on the outside of the trailer! also all the hoses and hook ups! The Folding Table also does the same thing.

Hi, the three slots up front... I am thinking of a place to lock up valuables... if I decided to carry a pistol... or even just a pellet pistol.... in the center one.... The two bigger ones behind it... would just be for shoes... I will just have a piano hinge... and a finger hole to pull up... and I haven't decided on the back 3... maybe some type of rarely used gear... or extra water... or food....

I replaced the outside boards today... the math works out a lot better! hopefully I can get some plywood down tomorrow... I probably wont cut the hatches out except on the storage for the shoes... until I am farther along on the build..

I did a do over on the framing... I had to readjust some of the framing and I added some corner Brackets to make things a little stronger...

This morning, I got the plywood screwed into the framing and some waterproofing on. After the water proofing drys, I can caulk all the joints (spider proofing!) and then put some foam insulation on the underside. Learning a lot taking notes on what NOT to do next time!!

Then my wife is going to draw the radius for me on the front corner... she has some templates for sewing that should work... Then I can start on the walls!!

Now I better clean the Garage before I do any more... it looks like a cyclone hit it!!!!

How will you slide it out of the trailer? Already looks too heavy to do manually.

Lol! Yes I am worried about that too!! The frame is the bulk of the weight and it is getting heavy... I have an engine hoist so possibly a sling... but my plan is to leave it in for the summer months... so would only have to lift it on and off once a year...

So it may sound off the wall, but if your trailer will have a tilt function, or if you allow the tongue to rise up in the air, you could build in a heavy duty pillow jack sandwiched between a castor wheel plate and the floor of your TD in the "basement" storage area. (or just the pillow jacks allowing enough room you can slide in a homemade pallet jack or dolly or something under there to slide it off the trailer. I dunno, just a thought.

Are you using construction adhesive or glue?

A few of these lifting casters (400 lbs each) might help loading and unloading.
