I am looking forward to some good times ahead. How did I end up here? Well, saddle up to the bar and I'll tell you a tale...

In the beginning a 6'3" fella (all arms and legs) married a 5'3" lady. We met in a campground and rock-climbing and hiking were our passtimes. Needless to say, tenting it is no big deal for us. That said, my wife has always loved the little egg-sized campers and wanted to get one. I always say no... well... because I am 6'3".
Now within the past few years we have been climbing less and we started participating in triathlons. That involves transporting bikes. We consider ourselves earth-friendly people and have a single small 4 cylinder car (Matrix). We quickly realized the transporting the bikes on the outside of the vehicle covers them in bugs and mud or, even worse, they get dinged by flying debris

Very recently I bought a used utility trailer for some work around the house, which is much cheaper than owning a pickup. We began pondering a way to rig a cover on it to transport the bikes.

"Look up teardrop trailers on the web, " he said. "They are small form-factor campers you can build yourself. You could stick the bikes inside that for the trip."
"What is that ominous music I hear?" I thought.
Now... if I was a wise man, I would have waited until the wife was gone before visiting Professor Google. "oooo... images," I thought," I'll check out a few of these."
"Those are so Cuuuuute!" someone shrieked over my shoulder. " You can build one of those!"

That brings us to this past weekend... We have a triathlon in North Carolina on 2 August. I have a 4x8 utility trailer that I can strip the rails off of and get it to a flatbed. I have some skill as a general construction laborer. I think this is the part where Jake Blues says "Hit it!"
Can I build a camper in time? Can I build a modular one that drops onto the trailer so that I can still use the trailer as a utility trailer. Can I build just the external shell first for this trip and pretty it up later?
Thank the stars I found this forum!

Peace,
BoulderDay
