La Larme (the teardrop in French)

Hi everyone, here is another Father-Daughter build started back in April. I have been looking at teardrops for about a year now, I just fell in love with the size and vintage look and I just knew my talented father could help me build one. So when he retired back in March, I talked him into the project, to keep him from getting bored of course!!!

I purchased a 5 x 8 trailer from Northern Tool and immediately Dad decided I needed a heavier axel and electric brakes since I will be towing with my MIni. So we replaced the axel and adjusted the placement than the original plans, put on electric brakes and purchased bigger tires than the original. Then dad decided I needed stabilizer jacks and so we added 4 scissor jacks, one for each corner of the trailer and to attach them a friend of my dad welded on a piece of channel to attach them.

Then we screwed on a base frame for the floor and we were stalled for about 3 weeks when dad decided we needed to order a larger piece of plywood so we ordered a 5 x 10 marine grade birch plywood from a woodworkers company in Charlotte, NC.

Next another friend of my dad's made me a couple of galvanized boxes for under the bed storage, we framed those in, sealed the bottom of those and the floor and finally screwed down the floor to the frame.

Once the floor was down, the walls went up really quick because I purchased a kit from theteardroppers.com, which came with the birch walls, aluminum walls, and the hatch kit. We have the roof to do on our own.

That looks like a cracking start!

Great idea with the galv floor boxes

Oh, and I really envy your dad having a daughter who is so keen to build a project together.

My daughter thinks I'm crazy whenever I mention teardrops....
