to stand up inside or to stand up outside!

As with all the design stuff... it comes down to YOUR personal preference. Do you want to stand up inside? Then build a standy. If you don't need to stand up inside, then don't build a standy. Do you like the shape of a standy? Then build one. Maybe where you're going to store your trailer will limit your height? Then don't build a standy. We can't tell you what to build. To each their own.

Always though teardrops were for "horizontal" activities like sleeping .....

My opinion here..
The way I travel and some of the places I go to, decides whether I take the teardrop or the standi.

When weather is nice and I am traveling light the teardrop goes and my time is outside.

When the weather isn't nice or going up north to just sit and there is the possibility some time may be spent inside .
Hands down the stand up goes.

You got to figure it out and then build it.

SC,

I'll second what DrCrash says. We can deal with the cold - or at least cold to us - in the winter but in the fall and spring the rain makes us wish we had something to stand in so we don't have to fool with wet tarps and porta-potty tents when we get home.

Another factor to consider is age. I don't think you're anywhere close, but we're just around the corner from being 60. It would be nice to have an "indoor" porta-potty to keep from going outside or climbing over each other during the night. We're considering some sort of a standy or maybe a cargo trailer conversion to address our needs (or probably better stated as our "wants.") Nevertheless we don't think we'll get rid of the teardrop.

Take care,
Tom

I am in the process of building my new camper. It will be a weekender design. We will have a side pullout awning that will have an tent. This way if it rains we can be in the little side room and still be able to stand up.

I will second this. I live in Ontario, there are lots of biting bugs here during much of the camping season. And I don't want to always put up a screen room etc to get away from them, or I might as well be tenting. So I have a Prolite Suite, which allows me the option to almost stand, have couch seating, and cook inside if need be. If I lived where the weather was always pleasant and no bugs, I might think differently.

Hey Slow,

I keep coming back to this particular design concept, http://vintagecaravans.proboards.com/thread/4583 , a one-off homebuilt. Obviously it needs to be wide enough to sleep crossways, but I really like to configuration of the kitchen area. Because you are standing at ground level, you can maintain a much lower profile.

It would be very simple to add a "Kampmaster" style tent room, with skirting around the galley footwell, to keep the bugs at bay during warm season.

BTW, if you've never been to this site before, there are a lot of cool things to see..
