Figured we go south a bit to Central Eastern Nevada area.
Big Basin National park.
One of the least visited National parks in the country. When you look at the map, you can see one reason. It's in the middle of a lot of open country.
Long and wide open roads.

A real road trip without a lot of traffic.

Left the Salt Lake valley around 8 AM, stopped in Delta for breakfast and arrived at Great Basin NP around 12:30.

First surprise.... This park is free.

Drove to Upper Lehman Campground (trailers not recommended. well, we all know they can't be talking about teardrops) at about 7800'
and found a nice spot.
Set up camp, and before you knew it, we had pink visitors crashing the party.

Had a quick sandwich for lunch and spend a few hours exploring.
Made dinner....
and enjoyed the rest of the evening sitting around the campfire.
Next day we drove up to Maethers Overlook (road to to Wheeler Peak at 10,000' is still closet due to snow)
and spend time enjoying the mountains around us.
This part of Nevada get about 10" of water a year. So the next part is somewhat unexpected to me.
Lehman cave.
First white man to explore it was rancher/miner Absalom Lehman in 1885.
What you are looking at is graffiti dated July 3rd, 1921
Spend the rest of Saturday afternoon around camp relaxing.
Came across this fellow while taking the kids for a walk (good thing they were on a leash)
Around dinner time the sky turned nasty....
When it started snowing, it was time to retire for the night.
Woke up to this.....
Good thing about a tear drop, it doesn't take long to pack up.
It was still snowing when pulled out an hour later.
Turned to rain as we drove back down the mountain.
Did have to cross a mountain pass on the way home Sunday morning. Only saw 3 cars on the road until we got close to Delta.
This is my favorite pick of the trailer this trip
Few notes if you are thinking about going to Great Basin.
This time of year the water in campground is not turned on yet.
Nearest town is Baker. Couple small stores and a gas station (7/11 would have been a big step up). Not much more.
The next nearest service is about a 85 miles and cell phone coverage is spotty in this part of the country.
Even with 100 deg days in the valley, it should be real nice at the high elevation campgrounds. That being said, because of the elevation, even a cool summer storm can produce a short snowfall.
