Had a good trip this weekend. Fished, hiked, relaxed. Also got my fair share of chiggers!!!

When I was a kid, in Oak Cliff (part of Dallas) in the 50's and 60's, everyone had a product in their medicine cabinets to treat chigger bites (a constant menace in spring and summer). Chigerrid, or something like that. I'm not sure of the exact spelling of the name, or even what the bottle looked like, but I do remember the slogan on it..."one drop kills red bug" (chigger). I always had a bottle or two in my Boy Scouts First Aid Kit, just in case. Really helps!

I was at Cedar Hill SP the week before last in the Kenskill. It was kind of a bust, the site I had was down the hill from the trailer and it was really windy so I was battling smoke the whole time and my camper kept springing leaks. I do like the park because it has 355 sites, you can pretty much always get a site any time though!!

We used to use monkey blood on insect bites. Mecurechrome or something like that was what it was called. They stopped making it due to the mercury in it.

My site was downhill too! I had to tote all my stuff to and from the campsite. I'm telling ya that was a job! I'm not a teenager anymore!

Yeah at first I thought it was cool, secluded, no one bothering you, but then I had to move firewood! LOL! Plus my water leaks flooded the firepit which was the last straw for me!

Cedar Hill SP is beautiful and convenient if you live in the metroplex but we prefer Loyd Park on the other side of Joe Pool Lake. Somehow, it doesn't have the chiggers that Cedar Hill does.

That's good to know. We will check it out. To be honest, we weren't overly impressed. Our favorite SP is Cleburne, but it was full, we didn't have much choice. I wish they mowed Cedar Hill better, it looks like they just take one swipe through each camp site.

Part of the difference is that Loyd Park is owned and maintained by the City of Grand Prairie.
