Back in 1968 when I went to live in the University Dorm I took a little tub of Legos. People laughed at me a bit but by the end of the year almost everyone in that dorm had stopped in to play with the Legos.

weight and cost, lego isn't cheap, and if you built a 5x8 tear out of it it would be heavy (if you have the chance heft a bin full, I helped at a daycare type place and was amazed at the weight of a laundry basket sized bin). Foam is the grown up version of lego!
