Newbie from central Ca.

Postby donnacooter » Sun Jun 01, 2014 12:23 pm

Hi everyone, my name is Donna, my husband and I are new to the teardrop world. I Iust purchased a 2011 Cozy Cruiser. I brought it home on the Friday of the Memorial day weekend. So wanted to take her out but new I knew it would be crazy crowded. :? So we wait. I have spent my free time getting her outfitted for our Madin voyage.

Right now we live in the San Joaquin Valley, CA. (hot). My husband is retired, I have about 4 1/2 year left before I can throw the towel. We are planning to relocate to WASHINGTON (where it is much cooler) to be close to our girls at that time. We have traveled all over the state of CA. We are so looking forward to see new sites and using our teardrop a lot.

Any advise on this way of camping, what works and what doesn't, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

D. Cooter

Welcome Donna, cograts. on your new trailer, I'm sure you will have many years of fun and adventure with your TD. My Wife and I also recently picked up our Cozy Crusier, April 11th to be exact. We camped two nights on the Oregon coast on the way home. Since then, I took my Dog ( My Wife was busy doing something else ) camping for 3 nights at Deception Pass, ( Washington coast ) We live in the Seattle area. Then for Memorial Day week, We took 6 days to the Columbia Gorge area out of Vancouver, Wa. and had a great time. We are rookies at TD camping, but are learning so much from the great people on this forum, and we also got lots of good info. from our last camping trip at the Gorge, it was a TD and Tiny trailer Gathering and we made lots of new friends and got to see many beautiful trailers and see exactly how they use their trailers and get some ideas. We are retiring in three years, so until then, we will practice Teardropping as much as possible, like 3 days this coming weekend, and in July the Redwoods, Ca. Have Fun with your trailer, Best regards, Ernie and Joy

Welcome Donna, sounds like you guy's are anxious to get started. I also live in the S.J. Valley on the eastern edge in the foothills of Waterford, the summer months are tough unless you go to the coast or high up in the sierras to escape the summer heat. I'm closer to the high sierras so that's mostly where I go besides loving the mountains. Not sure exactly where you are in the valley, you may be closer to the coast and if you like the ocean that's a good cool place to camp too! Spring and fall are wherever you want to go, much cooler then for sure. Good luck with the new tear and we like pic's!

Welcome to the Form from the PNW.
Sandi and I have been TD camping for 13 months now and just love it. Both the camping lifestyle that a TD permits and the wonderful people we have met at TD Gatherings and along the way.
There are plenty of beautiful places to explore in the PNW and many camping areas we can recommend.
There are also a good number of "Official TD Gatherings" and events you can take in, that will allow you to meet some amazingly friendly folks.
Good Luck with your new TD and we hope to meet you in the not to distant future.
By the way we have logged over 15,000 miles so far with "Miss Piggy", towing as far as New Mexico, and have attended 5 gatherings to date. :) 68 nights of sleeping in her!

Welcome!
My husband & I got our Cozy Cruiser last summer & have been having fun getting out with the Teardrop about every 4 to 6 weeks since.
One of the great things about having the Teardrop is we can decide to go at the last minute & just have to pick up food on our way out of town & in Southern California there is no shortage of year round camping as we don't mind a cold night here and there.
I've found a lot of great advice here on the forum about what to take & what to leave home...after having taken it just to see for myself. :R
Have fun!!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. Excited to learn all the ins and outs of TD camping. Redneck Teepee we are in Bakersfield. Closer to the mountains then the coast, which is good because we like the wilderness areas better then the ocean. Also excited to attend some of the T&ttt camping get together as time allows.

Thanks again everyone, hope to meet some of you real soon.

Bakersfield... Love the Knotty Pine Cafe on Norris Rd, always stop for breakfast when passing thru, biscuit's and gravy to die for. I'm planning in about a week to hit Bishop for some fly fishing in the upper lake's and streams for a couple of day's. I go the 108 hwy east over Sonora pass to 395, then south to Mammoth/Bishop area. It is a beautiful drive and a pleasant one to boot with very little traffic all in the higher cooler elevations. Looking forward to getting out of this heat for a spell, even if it's short lived.....Larry

Welcome to the forum. We live in the sierra foothills east of Fresno. This time of year we usually head up into the mountains to get to the cooler temps. There used to be a vintage trailer meet at Rivernook campground on the Kern River above Lake Isabella that we attended a few times. That's right up the road from you. Fished for trout in the river behind our campsite. There will be a teardrop camp out in July in Sequoia National Park that we are going to. Look in the Jefferson State section of the forum for details.

Have fun with your new teardrop!

RedneckTeepee,

Knotty Pine is one of the best places in Bakersfield for biscuits and gravy. I go there often. :)
I'm excited to learn about the different TD events and get togethers. If you know of any in this area I would love to hear about them. Have a great time in Bishop, I hope you catch the Big one.

Is anyone attending the King National Forrest camp out next weekend? This is going to be our first tear drop event. We would love to meet fellow tear droppers.
