Looked out the window and started a project

Postby RedDragonTDI » Tue Jun 03, 2014 12:31 pm

Hey guys,
Thanks for the add again and I look forward to learning a lot from a new experience. A little bit about my project, Ive had a 6x4 box trailer sitting for 8 years rotting in a wood area. I looked out my window one night at it and decided to pull it out and build some sort of camper. I knocked all the old wood panels out and am still in the tear down/inspection stage. I cant wait to really take off and get this thing rolling. ;)

I had a 50"x60" trailer that sat over marshy ground in my back 1/4acre for 18+ years. Most of the wood rotted away, except for two treated end rails (which I later cut-up and used for my sliding tongue-box mount). I tried to give it away several times, even offering to re-build it for an in-law (for free). But, eventually, originally intending to make it into a Explorer-box/tent-top platform for my wife, I succumbed to a long-term dream of building a Teardrop type (my alternative-to variant), instead.

Adam,

I've had the same vision. Several years ago I was the recipient of the family's "go to the dump" trailer. It's based on an old 40's car front axle with leaf springs. I've grown up with it hauling boy scout equipment, multiple trips to Baja and various other duties along with the occasional load to the dump. It's now sitting out by my barn looking old and worn out but I mentioned to my wife that it would be a good base for a teardrop. I still don't think she's come around to a trailer that small but you never know.

Good luck on the project and be sure to ask a lot of questions as there are a lot of people who have been where you are going.
