AC Door

Hello Everyone,
Here again guys with a couple of questions. I am not going to say I have one question cause one lead to a ton of them. So to keep it simple I am maybe a third way on my build. I am going to install an AC that will be removable. It's a 5,000 btu's and so small I could leave it on the trailer all the time. But it would make the trailer lose it's smoothness with all the curves and all. I don't want to be driving down the highway and an AC butt sticking out the side of the trailer. I went with the teardrop style. Now that was a real challenge for me cause I'm used to building stuff that's 90º and these radiuses have really gotten to me, but they didn't win. So I want to build a door for the AC unit hole and at the same time, when I'm not using the AC unit, I want to place a window fan in it's place. Is there any place I can order the frame with a sealed door built to the dimensions I need? Has anybody done the same I'm trying to do? Any and all ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Carlos. I am planning on doing the same thing. I bought a slightly oversided cargo door off ebay. I will be making an insert to fit the AC snuggly and that will go snuggly into the door opening. When the AC is not needed, I can use the same arrangement for the fan. Good luck!

Hi Carlos,

As Bonnie suggested, a cargo door is a good option for what you want to do.

I'm guessing you have a typical teardrop with mattress on the floor.
If you mount the A/C in the cargo door, find the best location as high off the mattress as you can, actually closer to the ceiling is best.
This is because cold air falls, and because most people find it uncomfortable to be frozen from having the unit blowing on a leg, shoulder, etc.
The other considerations are that the unit will take up some interior space, so higher up is better, and it will need at least a short shelf, or other support on the interior to keep it from falling out of the door onto the bed.
A fold up/out of the way ledge or shelf would be easy to add inside.
Someone here built an insert to fit in the space of their open door to support an A/C when in use, and you could make a door within your door to hold the unit.
