Leaving two wheels, I think!

Postby Motonut » Sat Jun 07, 2014 8:58 pm

Hi to all fellow campers. No matter what formula your rig evolved from, it's all good if you are outdoors camping.

I am new to this forum; lurked for a bit, but registered so all picture features work normally.

I tent camped with family as a child. Did a bit of tent camping over the years but didn't really get into a groove until I re-entered motorcycling in the 1990s. I have frequently moto-camped for the last fifteen years +, and will never lose interest in getting out and doing the camp thing.

I have lost my enthusiasm for cycling and plan on selling out of that. I have NOT lost any enthusiasm for camping! I may truck camp for a bit; might buy a used Casita, Scamp or the like; might build a tent-top trailer; might build a teardrop... I am even interested in cargo trailer conversions. So... the important thing to me is to NOT ever stop camping.

I'll let ya'll know what direction I take when the time arrives. If it flows anything like motorcycling, one avenue will be taken and that will get fully farkled out, then another different avenue becomes "what must be" and that gets fully farkled as well. It's all about the gear and accessories, for sure! :)

Welcome to the board, Motonut. Good for you, wanting to camp and sleep up off of the ground. Many options you mention will work just fine, however, I lean more to the teardrop style. To each his own, what ever works for you, will at least get you out and enjoy night time campfires and a glass of wine with other new-found camping fiends. However, being an old So Calif octogenarian retiree, I tried to find the meaning of the word.....Farkled, but couldn't find it anywhere. Perhaps it is a local term, and hopefully you can enlighten me. Good luck on your search for the perfect camping unit, there are many of them out there. Enjoy.

Hi Roly,

Thanks for the welcome...

Farkle: pretty much any item you purchase and use to accessorize your rig. If you have ever bought some embellishment that would personalize your tear, and installed it, then you have farkled!

Danny,

The urban dictionary definition is pretty accurate, if you read the full description. Harley riders accessorize with chrome bits and trinkets. Sport touring riders accessorize with all of the items that the manufacturer should have included, but didn't, and all of the must-have items that one personally finds necessary.

Fully-farkled is usually a minimum of $2k and can go to a much higher figure.

Hmm, I could carry a small dirt bike on a bumper hitch on my AWD Astro van. Best of both worlds. Still have a bike to play with and don't have to sleep on the floor. Build a small trailer with a motorcycle rack extension on the front or back. Personally I'll just stick the van and my bicycle. (-:}

Always loved the "Farkel Family" but over here on the TnTTT Forum. We like to use the term "Glamping" for those who like to accessorize our "Teardrop Trailers" to the point of craziness! :twisted: :twisted:
And as for what Roly said :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:
But what he neglected to tell you.....was about the wonderful people you will meet in the Teardrop Family!
WELCOME!

Oh great, now I know what I can call all of the special wooden stuff I have on my woody teardrop, like, woodspoked wheels, wooden roof hatch, wooden bumper, wooden fenders, wooden satelite dish, wooden flip-down Plazma TV, wooden window frames, temp. wooden hitch, wooden connector in reciever, with wooden chain, wooden clearance lites, wooden break and tail lites, wooden hatch-holder-uppers, wooden toaster with wooden bread slices, wooden perk coffee pot, wooden TD napkin holders, wooden cups, saucers, plates spoons, knives and fork, wooden cabinet door and drawer pulls, wooden dutch oven, wooden tongue box, wooden folding table, wooden license plate frame, and "wouldn" I like to stop right here? So, it's all called "Farkel" how about that........great, a word I will always remember, thanks.
