    Slowcowboy,
Most members come to this forum for fun, friendship and sharing information about camping & building. Constantly hijacking threads like this one with self absorbed uninformed argumentative whining nonsense is just not within the spirit of the forum. IMO.
From what I can tell, by most standards, you live a privileged life on your parents farm. You have your health. You're a free white man over 21 living in the beautiful state of Wyoming, USA. Nobody is standing on your neck. You have a step up on most everyone in this world. Look inward. Please stop blaming the women, the President, the weather, the government, your Native neighbors, Canadians, city people, Californians, the Chinese, the economy, adnauseam. You'll be happier.
Maybe go down to Colorado for an attitude adjustment. :pipe:

What he said

Already drove the first leg of my summertime great adventure. Santa Cruz, CA to eastern Washington state. The drive was by way of Boise, ID so I could visit a friend camped out there in her large RV. Added two hours to my total trip but definitely worth the quality time with a good friend, hot homemade dinner, and the fancy breakfast she made me on my single night stop over.

Soon I'll leave WA and hit the road again for a fun stop before relocating east of the Rockies! Have driven east before so that won't be a first. Just hoping to not run into any large hail/tornado storms like I did last June :frightened: Then gas prices would be the least of my worries

Without my pup (he passed away in March) I may be able to stop and do some sight seeing this time. There was never anywhere cool or safe enough to leave him when we'd been on the road together before. Driving slow and easy so it should be a nice trip.

Gas prices

Postby nevadatear » Fri Jun 27, 2014 2:34 pm

To use a term showing my age, right on Staci! And well said, Fred. Looking forward to meeting you soon. We are packing up NOW, I am just waiting for Randy to get home. Headed first to our daughter's big wedding celebration this weekend, then off Monday to IRG. First stop Lassen National Park, then on to a friends for a little pre IRG mini gettogether, then arrive at IRG on wed. Can't wait to meet up with all our old and some new teardrop friends. We'll be the ones in the whale shaped woodie leading the bird tour on Friday. To my belief system, the problem with gas prices is they have always been too low, fostering no reason to invest in an efficient mass transportation system or alternative fuel systems in this country. That might explain why I have been driving a Prius for 12 years and walk to work, but that is not important to my camping with my friends, nor are my beliefs important to this thread, so that is all I am saying about that. we will be there regardless of the price. its still cheap compared to other types of travel.

See many of you soon in the magnificent redwoods where we will enjoy cool temps, great food, and some great conversation and a LOT of laughs.
Debbie (with Randy looking over my shoulder)

The way Bob and I look at it---"It is what it is", regarding gas prices. Not much we can do about it, other than plan for the cost of it. Central Wisconsin is devoid of the more "rustic" campground venues we prefer. Our favorites (in every direction), are at least 2-3 hours away and $80-$100(total gas round trip-we do take some side trip adventures from camp). Hartman State Park (20 miles away) is too open, with only a very few sites that interest us, with the additional problem of running into everyone we know from work. (If I want to see all the "big box" customers I see everyday at work and listen to kids scream and run amok, I'll just go to work instead).

It's a matter of priorities and the saving of gas money for our trips. We don't go to movies, eat out at restaurants, we've cut back on junk food and soda, and a lot of other things that add up. We just prefer to camp. Have already been out 3 times since late April---CBTL at Koehler State Park, Governor Dodge, and just came back this Thursday from Perrot State Park along the Mississippi. Have many more adventures planned through the fall. We have elongated our camp trips to 2 or 3 days (or more) each time---no more "let's just do a quick overnight burner". Hopefully we'll find that elusive rustic, primitive (or at the very least quiet and somewhat secluded camping venue) closer to home.

the end of July, Brien and Sandi are having a Teardrop get-together at their place in Westbank, BC. This message is to let everyone know that if you are and/or were planning the trip north but after reading here of the high gas prices that maybe giving you second thoughts about the trip, this is to let you know that you do NOT!! need to buy any Canadian priced gas en-route to their place. If you take Hy 97 north out of eastern Washington (filling up before leaving Wash) it is just 75 miles to their place and 75 back which is with-in range of just about anyone's vehicle.

If you thing gas is expensive, try coming on vacation to the uk, getting a rental car, and filling it up over here!

Do call in, I'll buy you a coffee! ;)

Invest now!
But my whole life has been spent in envy of how cheap EVERYTHING is in the USA in comparison for prices in Canada.
Most everything that is taxed heavily....like Gas, Booze, Cigarettes, cost at least 2 to 3 times as much!
Most everything else is at least 50% more. Thus we buy as much as we can on Ebay or Amazon.
But, to comment on how we can fix our own economy! We must quit being so cheap! Quit looking for bargains at Walmart and any other Big Box store that exploit American workers and sell product exclusively made outside of your country by cheap labour that puts Americans out of work.
If you all bought only US made goods, then there would be more jobs to produce those goods.
But, it is so easy to blame someone else for your plight, including your government.
I don't really want a debate here.......I was just expressing my opinion!
And this, by no means has anything to do with the "Joys of Teardrop" camping, and really does not need further discussion.
There are way too many positive things to discuss now at the height of "Teardrop Gathering" season!
