Plastic thing!!!!! What plastic thing?
Yeah. I last put mine on about 1 month after I bought the saw. Best safety device is that thing between your ears. and even then "things" will happen.

That being said I have seen several saws that were more dangerous with the protector. They think that all people are only cutting certain sized woods. I cannot cut 1x2s with my hand radial saw. the wood is not big enough to push the Blade safety up and away so the wood gets caught in the safety and will twist and the saw will almost jump out of my hand. I wish I lived closer I would come and give you the same wood cutting lessons that my woman friend gave me years and years ago. Yes they are different from the boys lessons. Just be safe.

So......................I got a wedge and put it between the protection piece and the opening and it keeps the Protector thing back while I saw small stuff. I just make sure that the blade stops turning if I need to set the saw down.
