Plastic thing!!!!! What plastic thing?

Yeah. I last put mine on about 1 month after I bought the saw. Best safety device is that thing between your ears. and even then "things" will happen.

The Government decided that in their infinite wisdom that Americans are stupid and we should be protected so they insisted that those plastic things should be put on for our safety. That being said I have seen several saws that were more dangerous with the protector. They think that all people are only cutting certain sized woods. I cannot cut 1x2s with my hand radial saw. the wood is not big enough to push the Blade safety up and away so the wood gets caught in the safety and will twist and the saw will almost jump out of my hand. I wish I lived closer I would come and give you the same wood cutting lessons that my woman friend gave me years and years ago. Yes they are different from the boys lessons. Just be safe.

Nope, I'd fail that question. That's the sections I just skimmed. But I did figure out that 500# of beer is 59.91325 gals. If it was in 1 gal milk jugs it would take up the entire floor space of most TD's.

But sadly that's true! The number of "Homer Simpsons" out there is frightening. To bad we have prohibitions against Darwinian selection.

What brand of saw do you have? I just checked my circular saw (I guess that's what you're referring to) and it has no problem. I have a Dewalt hypoid drive (sometimes called worm drive) saw. It's heavy which is good as it discourages just hand holding it in the air unless you have to use it all day. In any event, placing the board on a short sawhorse or some suitable support and kneeling on it to hold it in place is a safer way to cut it. That allows you to lift the blade guard as needed.

Cutting hand held boards with a circular saw is definitely a macho thing. We know macho behavior is a recipe for potential disaster.

Never stand directly behind the blade. If there is "kick back", you don't want to be in the way of that spinning blade. This applies to table saws as well, although in this case it's the wood projectile.

Be safe is always important with sharp powered tools.

A lot of Brits would disagree. But they don't think of it as a refreshment, it's food!

Personally, I like it cold, especially after a hot day of hard work.

My first mental picture was a drink tube from the beer bed. Your body weight on the beer bed would force feed beer all night transferring the beer from bed to bladder. Gotta go... Gotta go... ah shoot!

Page 252,whew. Time to climb into the hammock, a full day of tubing the Rainbow River tomorrow with a bunch of the family, both sides. I would like to make a comment on what I have gathered so far from this thread.

Kinda new here, matter of fact the new smell hasn't washed off yet. Some times during the read I wished that the plot was a bit more coherent but as it developed I realized there was more to the story. This is as much about humanity and how we approach life as it is about building a TD or TT. I've learned a lot about some of you just thru this thread and hopefully you can learn something of me. I'm a hammocker and we have the same kind of comradery in the Hammock Forum. A some point it becomes family and I believe you have that here. Looking forward to contributing in any way I can. But from the onset expect questions.

Trav, reading the whole forum can be a bit much too. I know how you feel. When I found this foamie section I felt at home. that's when I knew that building a foamie was possible and since i am not a perfectionist (since this is an experiment) and I am not competing, I felt right at home. You can tell that we are diverse and enjoy showing our funny side I have been several times but I just keep building my TD, I think it is a Benroy named Grits. If you come up with a different and new design then you get to name it!! Have fun and ask questions and add to the discussions, experiments and always pictures. I learn from pictures best. anyway I will be too honest and curious sometimes, but I promise I just want to know. like where ya live (part of state) and what do you want me to call you and if you are a member of tearjerkers we might just camp next to each other some day and in that case I might need your name so I can call you to supper!!!

So......................I got a wedge and put it between the protection piece and the opening and it keeps the Protector thing back while I saw small stuff. I just make sure that the blade stops turning if I need to set the saw down.

Please be careful.

The problem is that your circular saw is badly designed. I would look into getting a new one that doesn't have that problem. Good saws are really not that expensive, especially compared to going to the emergency room.

The blade guard is there to protect you (and the blade) from a still spinning blade. Disabling a guard is a BAD IDEA . This goes for table saw as well.

With all tools, powered or not, STOP when you're tired and probably not thinking clearly. Most accidents happen when the operator is tired.
