Anyone mount a TV on the outside?

Postby Lucky53s » Thu Jun 26, 2014 7:30 am

I'm thinking that I want to figure out a bracket on the outside of my future TD that will let me hang a TV to gather around for a game or race while I'm camping. I'm a big sports fan so I don't often miss my teams play or the Sprint Cup race.

Mostly my family camps in highly improved campgrounds (40 foot Newmar motorhome) so I will definitely be the black sheep. If will cost next to nothing to prewire for a cable hookup and most improved campgrounds these days provide free cable. So if you have a picture of how you mounted a bracket or created a system for putting a TV outside I'd love to see it. I'm thinking maybe a 32 inch max that can be placed inside the TD while towing and in the tow vehicle at night or during inclement weather when it can't be used.

I used a low profile wall mount inside but it would be easy to use an identical one outside. The piece that attaches to the wall is small and could easily be painted to match the TD. Pull out the crossbar, unhook the cables to reroute and the flatscreen lifts easily off to be hung on the outside one. This is my first time trying to post a picture but I'll to show you what my mount looks like.

Hope it at least gives you an idea. :)

I will most likely end up doing something just like that. I'm just wondering if anyone has a pretty alternative. I'm thinking that I'm going to have natural woody sides and a black bracket would stick out. I can probably do tan/lt brown paint over it.

Thanks for the reply.

A very light tan paint and you can wipe a darker oil stain over it with a crumpled piece of clear wrap or a plastic bag. It will give the appearance of wood grain. You should, with a little experimenting, be able to closely match your woody's exterior finish

I am quickly coming to believe that Bob has all of the answers to my questions. If you want to take a 3 month vacation to Florida while I build my TD then you can stay in the guest room. Or you can bring your TD and plug in to the outlet in the garage. :D

Cheri,
Does the TV clip in or latch somehow?
I'd be concerned about it bouncing off

Pete,
There is a piece that screws into the back of the flatscreen. (Mine had holes for a wallmount already there). The TV then hooks on both the bottom tab and your choice of two upper (in case you want a slight tilt down) Then a bar slides through, locking the flatscreen to the wall bracket... and it has a place on the bar for a padlock which I think is great for peace of mind.
I found mine at Best Buy... sized for the unit you want to hang. Mine was for a 13-26" TV up to 30 pounds and cost maybe $20.

PS If you need pictures of the other pieces let me know. I'm off Tuesday and could take some....lol. :pictures:

I've never been able to find anything for wall mounts that cheap at Best Buy. I bought three flat screen mounts that tilt on Amazon but are much too large for the outside of a TD so I will keep looking.

Side note: This has been a great mount for me. Just put a new 65 inch on the wall for the upcoming football season!

Here's the exact one I used:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/dynex-fixed ... &cp=1&lp=7

Of course it's for maybe a smaller screen than you want but it seems to be very secure once I lock it down. My TD is a very tiny solo so a 22" was about as big as I could go without giving myself a headache...... 8)

Monoprice has the lowest prices on wall mounts. Trouble is, it's hard to figure out what you're really getting without actually seeing it in person:

Monoprice linky

Here's one that is detachable and has two mounts. I messed around with something like this and didn't like how floppy it was in the bracket, no way would I travel with the TV up on the bracket.

I'm thinking a laptop with a usb tv tuner sitting in the galley, kicked back on our lounge chair.
We're going camping over Thanksgiving with my brother and this is our plan for our Seahawks which play that day. I've already got the laptop and tuner, works pretty good. Definitely an option.

Damn I just found this invite. That would be the life just cruise from town to town and assist in teardrop build after teardrop build.

We have a projection type tv system we use at out gatherings for movie night. A trailer side or a bed sheet in a pop up gazebo or even a real Daylight brand projector screen have all been used. You can focus tight for a small trailer side or fill up a side of a building. Just a thought !
