Decorative lights.

Has anyone found or made a replacement led lamp for the lights that are usually hung around the easy up tents? I'd like to convert ours from AC to 12 volt and use leds.

Decorative lights.

I'm planning to use a few goal zero "light-a-life" lights. 12V and 3 watts each. Long cable, integrated clips and you can chain multiple together easily. It's probably not exactly what you are looking for but it might be an idea. We are going to use them in side tents, ez up's and for general outside light.

How bright do you need them? If the answer isn't "super bright" how about avoiding the need for trailing cables etc and going for solar garden lights.... That technology gets better and better...

Just a thought

Not bright at all. We have the small lights that look like Christmas tree lights, with flower petals around them. I'd like to convert them to run off the TD battery or a small power pack.

Decorative lights.

Postby inthewoods » Sun Jun 15, 2014 7:21 pm

There's some instructables on various places on the internet about modifying Christmas lights to run off 12v. Most light strings use lower voltage light bulbs so it becomes a question of modifying the wiring so you have the appropriate voltage across the lights. I haven't tried it but d probably just start looking for a completely new set that starts at 12v with no modifications needed. Maybe something like this:

Here's one link to what seems to be some how to on modifying a string of lights. You'd probably want to be comfortable with wiring here attempting this and I still probably would not recommend it.

Inthewoods, thanks that's perfect. I'll try it and see what I get, running the lights on 12volts.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RGB-5050-LED-St ... 257427d21c. I'm may not understand exactly what you are looking for, but I used two of these sets on my trailer. The one on the underside (vanity) is 110 volts. The one inside is 12 volts. They both have several patterns they can run, or stop on one color. Red, blue, green and white. When set to white, on the inside, it more than enough for reading or project. 15 feet, short range remote, cheap...I am happy with them. Coyote

Not decorative but if you need a task light under the EZup. Check out thesehttp://sunlightlantern.com/. We use them hiking and they give off an amazing amount of light.

Are you talking about task lights, or decorative lights? Just for silly decorative lights, I found these options

I have a couple of those light strings that look like teardrop or T@b trailers and are 110Volt. I bought on Amazon a string of what was called golf cart lights, or maybe golf cart Xmas lights that are 12 volt. I then pulled the little trailers off the 110 string and put them on the 12 volt string of lights. I had to shorten the 12 volt string some. As I recall the 12 volt lights had a cigarette lighter plug on them, and Amazon had the female plug with a short lead with alligator clips. My daughter has some awning or canopy lights that are solar, a little panel sticks in the ground to catch the sun.
